Xiaomi Mipad Review!

Indus Monk

How is everyone doing? today i am here to review the xiaomi mipad. a tablet by a company which many consider to be the chinese apple!.... so let's get started!

post-107921-0-34872400-1444643678.png

It has a 7.9 in screen protected by Corning Gorilla glass 3... with a 8mp back camera with no flash.. and an 5mp Front camera. It has a rather strange 2048x1536p display resolution which is a shade over 1440p and has a pixel density of over 400 ppi. There are two variants of this tablet... a 16 and a 64 gb memory. Not only that, it also comes with expandable memory of upto 128gb via micro sd card.

It has dual microphones and stereo speakers at the back. and to the right, it has both the volume and the power keys both finished in chrome, along with a 6700 mah non replacable battery! It doesnot takes SIM cards though!

The specs department is just as impressive...
Though it only has 1.7gigs of RAM and not the claimed 2 gigs of RAM. it still has a very decent CPU though..., a cortex A53 CPU with 4 cores clocked at 2.0 ghz and a beast of a GPU... The Nvidia Tegra K1... a 192 core kepler GPU! This is the same GPU found in devices like the nexus9 and the shield tablet. The only difference here is that the CPU is not 64 bit.

It runs android 4.4.4 kit kat with miui 6 on top.
post-107921-0-15581900-1444643827_thumb.

The miui is a very heavily skinned ROM that is both unoptimised and a blatantly obvious rip off of iOS. which is typical of the chinese! The hardware makes up for the lack of optimization of the ROM, but in the international version atleast, Google Play is available. The rear Speakers are fairly Loud and clear but they are at the back and not in front...so...yeah!

But do not be fooled by the TegraK1!, it slows down ever so often, becomes unresponsive and crashes. The games run really terribly for a device like this... it performs more like a snapdragon 615 based phone!(Benchmark scores are the same!).The music playback is very good through headphones but if you use a bluetoth speaker, then it will skip and crackle like crazy. Youtube playback is also meh as it stutters alot!

CAMERA AND MIC:

Both cameras are Good if there is enough light but there is a lot of noise in the Pictures. The secondary microphone helps by a whopping 0% in noise cancelling!

Sad to hear, just because things on paper look good, doesnt mean they will turn out to be

Cheap components mean a poor experience, this is being 100% proved by Xiaomi

I think Xiaomi cellphone is much better than Xiaomi tablet, so they still not release their second generation of tablet.

Awwww. So sad they didn't update this in 1-2 years. I saw initial impressions and reviews in 2014 around the time it was introduced.

OH AND BY THE WAY - IT USES THE 32 BIt K1! THAT's WHY PERFORMANCE IS BAD!

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

It's a tablet and you shouldn't take pictures on a tablet MKBHD does not approve.

not about taking photos, but it matters for skype etc, if you are going to include cameras at least make them ok
