An important weekend for Star Citizen

Humbug

Tomorrow (Saturday) 10th October is the start of Citizen Con.

This will be held in Manchester UK. Their last public event in August was a success in terms of proving that the core technical stuff is coming together which enables them to combine all the different aspects of SC and make the kind of seamless gameplay they aspire to.

But since then a lot of controversy has blown up both from Derek Smart and The Escapist with claims that Chris Roberts is mismanaging the project, and that the game is too ambitious and vaporware, amongst other things... It's certainly not make or break, but still this weekend is a massive opportunity for Chris Robers to show something that proves how much progress they have made and that the project is on track overall. If they end up just showing things which are pretty but superficial it's only going to strengthen their doubters.

Personally as somebody who is an optimistic fan but not a backer I want to see more information about squadron 42 (the upcoming single-player campaign) which is expected sometime in 2016 (originally 2015). If they can demonstrate gameplay footage of the first singleplayer campaign it would go a long way towards quietening their critics....

CitizenCon will be livestreamed

The stream time will be at 1900 GMT.

**************************
The last public event was only two months ago at gamescom. They showed a truly impressive live gameplay demo with the ability for a multiplayer crew all in one instance to be on a space station, walk through an airlock together and then fly some ships away from the space station, fly thousands of km on the same map, then space walk outside and board a derelict ship which they restored power to and flew back home! Dogfights can happen along the way.

A con for a game that's years from being finished? Interesting.

I don't like conventions that much, but I'll more than likely watch the stream. They'll probably show some really sweet stuff!

I don't see how that's relevant at all. There's conventions all the time for stupid meaningless stuff. So just because the game isn't finished yet then it's weird that they are having a convention? That's like saying why does Microsoft/Sony/other game studios even bother going to E3 to show off future games? They aren't finished yet, so why bother? What's the point in having the IFA show if none of the phones there are going to be released for months?
