Star Citizen developers show off external & internal multicrew destruction

According to an ancient scientific study, the awesomeness of a spaceship can be measured by how spectacularly it explodes. Given Star Citizen's status as the most ambitious space sim in development it needs to observe this widely-held truth – and judging from the video above, it does.

 

 

Although the external explosions are impressive on their own, the internal shot of the retaliator @ 2:20 is probably some of the best video game FX I've seen. I knew the damage was gonna be detailed, but this is even better than I expected.

It never got delayed. They had a projected date on Kickstarter which was sometime in 2014, but they met a ton of stretch goals which added tons of stuff not in the original game which is making it that much longer to finish.

End of 2016/Q1 2017 is currently planned. The stuff in this video they want to release by the end of the month.

am i the only one that dislikes how the crytek engine looks like

 

every game that uses it makes me feel like im played a modded crysis game :/ which is annoying

Best video game spaceship explosion I've ever seen. Beats out a lot of movies even. Incredible.

The only thing that is putting me on the fence is something like "We gladly inform you, that the minimum req for this game is 4way SLI/Crossfire of Fury X / 980ti ... the recommended hardware we predict it will be available somewhere in around 2 or 3 years down the road".

an over worked feature that is in no way a core part of the game..

 

I would say its part of what makes a core part of the game.... ship combat and damage from that combat is kind of important. I dont see how this would not be considered part of the core gameplay.

Oh yeah, because the FX Artists are just suppose to go help with programming once they've completed the FX for the FPS level, right?

 

Damage modeling is actually really important to the multicrew and boarding aspects of the game. If you want to steal a multicrew ship, you have to disable it without destroying it, and boarding parties can disable systems to get through bulkheads or override security systems. If they can make it look good, that's just an additional bonus.

Well I can tell you there's optimizations to be made as some of the spots in the social module give me horrible fps for no apparent reason, because when I look an inch in a different direction I jump back to 60fps (at the 'very high' preset).

 

I can also say the main thing the game has is the amount of polygons on screen at once and the lighting. Textures aren't anything amazing so far that I've seen, unless they plan on updating what's there (which I highly doubt), so textures aren't the issue.

There are sound simulators in the ship/some EVA suits.

It's planned that they can be damaged and it'd result in there being no external sound
