$400 console killer pc or ps4? Help needed...

sakibrb

So I am gonna buy a pc or console but can't decide...

I've researched the local pc shop and found the following parts fall within my budget

Intel core i3 4160 3.6 ghz 4th gen 2 core 4 threads

gskill 2*4gb ram

mobo- some gigabyte one with 1*pcie 3.0 slot

wd blue 1tb

450 watt corsair

and for the gfx either R7 260x or gtx 750ti

So should this be able to play game at low settings for the next 2-3 years? or should I just settle for ps4?

That looks good to me, I'd just try and save for a GTX 950, it'll blow both of those cards out of the water and shouldn't be much more expensive.

really depends. performance will probably be better on ps4. but you can do much more on the pc. if you want to only game, then go for the ps4. if you will also use it for web and productivity, pc all the way.

+1, you can offset some of the overbudget by getting a H81 board. Maybe a MSI H81M-P33 then a Fractal 1000 for a case.

@The Official Czex Maybe a x4 760k or x4 860k would be better than a g3258. Thos 2 CPUs are pretty underrated while the G3258 is overrated IMO

Ehhh if you plan on playing modern AAA titles, I would recommend a PS4 at that price point. If you can pump a few hundred more into it though, PC will pull ahead pretty nicely at around the 600-700 range.

If you aren't into AAA games, go for it. 750ti will run pretty much anything from last gen along with any MOBA and most MMOs at medium-high settings.

Second build idea was in the works just as you were typing that.

Z97 board for serious OCing on that CPU, make that Pentium shine!

G3258 has 10-15% better performance in games due to much higher single core performance. This would be more useful to the OP than  four, weak cores unless he was also planning to render on his PlayStation, which I doubt.

Everything looks great for the PC, go for the PC instead of the PS4 as you can get most of the games from Playstation on the PC, your specs are fine and will run most games very well at the moment, as for the future try upgrading your GPU to a 950 right now its not much more i think and will give that little extra edge.

The Core i3 4160 is far better than the Pentium G3258. Sorry guys.

The Z97 motherboards can cost twice as much as a H81, so is it REALLY worth that money just for overclocking (which doesn't really help with gaming anyway)?

Isn't a 750ti just slightly worse than the PS4s GPU? Make sure you calculate the price of Windows as well if you don't have a license already. Also the PS4 just got a $50 price drop in the US I think? So the value is definitely on the PS4's side but if you prefer PC gaming then you can spend the extra money as well.

So I am gonna buy a pc or console but can't decide...

I've researched the local pc shop and found the following parts fall within my budget

So should this be able to play game at low settings for the next 2-3 years? or should I just settle for ps4?

i would stay away from the GTX 750ti they usually have to be restricted or you'll have artifacting at least when i started to use mine it did and after research i seen that it was a common problem

so i had to put my two cent in.  this will give you the ability to upgrade also if you use A10 cpu you can run dual graphics with a r7 gpu later down the road.  save up and get something like the XFX Radeon R7 260X

aren't you bottlenecked with that Pentium

don't get me wrong, I love the pentium, I'm also planning my first build to be a pentium.

But seems to me that a GTX970 is total overkill..

or is the PentiumK a placeholder, yes, that would totally make sense.
