Are the Astro A40's good?  This pair is only about $50 more than i would like to pay, but if they are worth it, i might get them.

They're more of a console gamers headset. Don't really offer any benefit. Like any "Gaming" product its really just a name you pay for.

They are good. I think sound wise they fall behind the high end sennheisers for gaming and the beyerdynamic gaming headset. Mic wise they are very good. Just about as good as you can get for a headset.

The stats do say 7.1 (means suround sound) and 20Hz-21KHz (no clue what this means).

In general I never buy anything related to tech with out testing it for about a month before the usual return date passes. It's completely your call man but if you have done the price comparisons and you think its a good deal I believe you are getting a quality headset.

Thank You all for the help.

Then you may want to change your title from the "perph" guy considering it sounds like your trying to shorten peripheral.
