I missed an MSI r9 290 gaming for $40 :(

afyeung

I was searching on ebay for another r9 290(x) to add to my rig so that I could max out GTA 5 and Witcher 3 1440p and also because these cards are dirt cheap if you can find them in store or a good deal online. Yesterday, by chance I found a guy on ebay selling 5 MSI r9 290 gamings that were "defective" at a starting bid of $20. The pictures displayed the cards in good condition and included the serial number, so I requested an RMA with MSI in case I bought the card and it was truly defective. Sure enough, MSI accepted my RMA request with both serial numbers I inputted and gave me the standard "sorry for the inconvenience" apology. I was extremely excited because I would be willing to pay up to $50 for one of those cards since the guy offered 15 day returns and MSI confirmed my RMA so I could get a working one. Sadly, I had other responsibilities which got in the way of me bidding. I checked today and the winning bids were around $36 which really pissed me off because I already planned an RMA and everything. At least I got my current r9 290 gaming for $143 from Microcenter (still not low enough for me) and can play most games at 1440p maxed out 80hz. Shout out to all the people who made these cards dirt cheap so that 1440p gaming is possible for under $150 (pretty great considering a gtx 950 is around $170 and comes nowhere close to a 290).

:( 290s are getting harder to find in the wild. My 3 local Micro centers don't carry them anymore when they used to have a deal on them every week.

Im American. And $270 for the cheapest 390 on Newegg is a heck of a lot more than $40

I must say, looking at the specs of your rig, that thing is complete overkill for gaming. In my opinion the GPU that you have selected does not match that criteria.

The single 290 is fine for most games at 1440p. But it would be nice if I could turn up the settings in more demanding titles such as gta 5

If you think you think you've had a bad day think about this:

Ron Wayne sold his 10% share of apple 1982 for 800$, which would now be worth a few billion $

Thanks man. You too. Dual 390xs must be epic. I literally cheaped out on every part I could except the case. Most of my stuff comes from micro center which has epic deals. I got my 5820k + mobo for $450. The whole PC ended up being less than $1100 which isn't bad at all.

I think that's more than just a few billion. But yeah. Most of my games run at around 70 fps maxed out and games are only getting even more optimized for AMD like battlefront which looks nice but is really easy to run on my rig at 1440p.
