Photo/Video Editing Rig Help

Hernium

Hi guys, I've been looking at a potential build for video and photo editing (AfterEffects, Lightroom, Photoshop, Silverfast, the lot...), but the rig I've drawn up looks to be more than USD$200 over budget (my budget is USD$1700).

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/8BK2yc

Any ideas where I can pare down the rig while still keeping it decent for my purposes?

P.S I also do quite a bit of War Thunder, Arma 2, Arma 3 and Battlefield on the side lines, so it'd be nice if the rig could handle those as well.

Thanks!

I do have a question though. Would a dual R9 290 be more important than the 32gb of RAM for my purposes?

Firstly i'd buy only 1 monitor and then when I'd had the money I'll buy a second one etc.
I did choose 5400rpm WD green HDD for mass storage, and if you need a faster HDD, you can get 1TB WD Blue 7200rpm for aproximetly $60.

As it goes for RAM and CPU cooler I guarantee you that 16gb will be enough and that be quiet cpu cooler is awesome (my non OC 5820K is sitting at 26C in idle). Case is nice, you can change it if you don't like it. I have one and I'm happy with it.

GPU: I don't know much about AMDs gpus. My friend has 380 and He is happy. If you want to save little bit of money go with 390 (non X), which is a bit cheaper

Case fans: I didn't add any new ones. But you can always pick them later down the line, when you'll get idk around $20.

Otherwise this should do.

If someone has any improvements please tell me, so I can help other people too :D

added a much better ips monitor which you should use for editing. the 970 below is very powerful (model from evga). use it for cuda

use my cpu and gpu overclocking guides; links in my forum signature below

edit:

the mobo below is sli compatible. you can add another 970 later on if you like. and you have enough wattage. that antec psu was on sale.

A single more powerful gpu is better for editing as it will provide better acceleration during editing. A second gpu would only be used when generating find product. An ssd is really needed, but it can't be squeezed into the budget without sacrificing the second monitor.

If I am intending to OC my 5820K, is a liquid cooler like the H100i or H80i necessary, or would a smaller liquid cooler/air cooler be better for this?

Air towers like the Noctua NH-U14S, NH-D15, Phanteks PH-1TC4PE and beQuiet! Dark Rock Pro 3 will allow for decent overclocking. Ones like the NH-U12S and Hyper 212 EVO will allow some oc, but not as much as the others.

AIO coolers like the H100i and H80i are roughly equivalent to the larger air tower coolers. For better overclocks Corsair H110i GT/GTX, Nzxt Kraken X61, Swiftech H240-x are needed.
