Skylake chip size vs. i7 920's size

Hi all!
My Skylake 6700k is in the mail!!!
Together with :

- 16 gb ram HyperX

- 750 Watts PSU

- Gigabyte Motherboard (with usb 3.1, type c and full of good sh** :3 )

However, I'll be re-using pieces from my old computer :

- SSD

- GPU

- CPU fan (maybe)

I had a CoolerMaster fan for an i7 920, bought about 4 years ago,

Can anyone tell me if the heatsink should be large enough or if I'm better to buy a new CPU fan right away?

Ohh, I even found the exact model of cpu fan I have, here.

I couldn't find a picture of the different i7 generations side to side to see if the sizes are simmilar,

if you guys know where to find this comparison that'd be great!

I think you need to get extra mounting hardware.

The pics on newegg would suggest that the cooler will still fit

Any mounting hardware for LGA-115x is compatible with LGA-1151, as they've kept the same mounting hole spacing since LGA-1156. I'm not sure if that goes for LGA-1366 as well, but the Hyper 212 Plus probably came with hardware for whatever Intel sockets were available at that time.

Whether or not you need a new cooler comes down to whether or not it's enough for the overclock you want to achieve. I doubt an i7-6700K at 91 W is going to get as hot as an i7-920 at 130 W. It's certainly not going to be hotter. My personal experience is that I upgraded from an i5-750 (95 W) to an i5-6600K and found it to reach similar temperatures at the same fan speeds with the same cooler.

You may want something more powerful if you're going to push it really hard with a lot of additional voltage. At stock or even modest overclocks I'm sure you'll be fine.

The Evo is basically a revision of the 212 Plus, but both are the same thing. Yes your current cooler will still work. You do still have them back plates?

For socket 2011 and 2011-3, you don't need the back plates, motherboard already has, so all you do is just mount the cpu cooler to it.
