Steam ripping me off or me being stupid?

Hey guys, I'm raging pretty hard right now .

Firstly, I have been gifted CS:GO, so I haven't made any payment on the steam store.

I also just received a gift card which totals around $14.50 USD. I got it to be able to buy skins on the CS:GO market, but am unable to, due to the attached screenshot showing the reasons.

I need to have made a purchase on the steam store, even though it says that deposits count . . .

Also the stuff about steam guard but I know I've just enabled it, so I know about waiting 15 days.

SO, is it just me and I need to make a purchase, or have i misunderstood? Thanks.

This is to prevent other users from creating fake accounts to steal or cheat people's money. You have no choice but to wait it out. I can tell you that this is a required feature because me myself once got cheated when i got too carried away with profits .

Your money wont disappear, if you are impatient use it to get a game from the store or smth.

Can't create new accounts and receive gifts. You can buy a game which should clear up most of the problems other than Steam Guard.

In order to use the market, you have to manually add funds to your wallet (paypal, visa etc.). Using a Steam wallet card actually doesn't count. It's stupid, but that's Steam in a nutshell.

Yea 30 days after you purchased a game and 7 days for steam guard.

Funny thing is, I have a mate who got steam a while back. Only game he had was TF2 free and he didn't have problems adding friends or anything.

They added it a while ago, to prevent scamming accounts, and some will say it also was to counter smurfs in CSGO. If you can get him (or some other friends) to send you some trading cards, you can level your account to lvl 1 (if it's not already) and if I remember correctly that will allow you to add friends (again, not 100% sure on that).
