New Open Case/Test Bench by Hydra

Hello guys,

Here is another project we're working on over at Hydra: the NR-01 open case/test bench.

As with all the other project we have developed and have received from other people to develop (our intention is to allow people to send us ideas, suggestions etc, help them develop the project and then let them earn from the idea they had), we'll be doing a crowdfunding sometimes near the end of November to start manufacturing them.

The project is still in the works but here are some preliminary renders of it (hence the grain in the images)
The case is designed to be used both horizontally and vertically, also allowing to change the placement of the radiator and the SSDs.

And here go some specs:

Reverse ATX (both a design and functionality choice)
Can mount ATX, Flex ATX, mATX and ITX form factor
8 slot PCI ( allowing for quad-SLI or quad-CFX support)
Can mount a maximum of 12 storage devices (6 SSD in the front, 6 HDD/SSD in the retro in blocks of 2)
5x5,25" slots to allow for controller/peripheral expensions
Native supports for 360mm radiator

Looks really well built! But im not a fan of the aesthetics tho. I feel like the left side of the case has too much ''Weight'' to it.

I would love to have one of those, that looks so awesome.

I would definitely pick one up

Uhm, you mean you fear it might be subject to some torsion in massive configurations?

We'll double check on that, but that should not be a problem :)

Thanks for the enthusiasm man!  glad to hear it!

They'll be available in a few month during the crowdfunding :)

Looks nice. You could probably make the panel on the left side (radiator location) a little bit thinner. Maybe take off about 1/3 of the current build and still keep that angular cut on the bottom to kinda hide the hdd bays.

Uhm, I guess I can see why, but its actually pretty different since that one is an open case that doubles as a wallcase while ours is an open case that doubles as a test bench :)

We do have wallcases in the works too (will post soon), but they also are pretty different from that one :)

Looks nice. You could probably make the panel on the left side (radiator location) a little bit thinner. Maybe take off about 1/3 of the current build and still keep that angular cut on the bottom to kinda hide the hdd bays.

I'll forward the suggestions to the designer for consideration, but the choice to leave it thicker was made to hide the rad/fan assembly from sight even when using thicker parts - this way when looked from the side/top the whole thing looks cleaner, but we'll consider your feedback and see how it looks that way :)

What site will you be using for crowdfunding??

I really do like the look of it, I'd contribute lol

We'll either be using kickstarter or indiegogo :)

There will also be many other things up as perks since we have many projects in the works:

Here are two more we've posted about on here

Well, components were put just for show/give a better idea of the dimensions :)

As far as the upside/down mobo goes, this way one can see the "pretty" side of the GPUs when using the case in vertical :)

Ya but unless they make a whole different version to flip that, it's the only way to use it and I don't like having labels I can't read.

Most times the GPU side label would be upside down in a configuration like yours :P

Uhhm, true that - however custom cards often have no writing on the side and flipping them this way allows to see the fans and the faceplate;

However we'll keep this in mind and ask around to see how people feel about it - if enough feel it's a bothersome choice, we'll flip it :)

Good point on the custom cards. I'd be very interested in this case. I'll keep an eye on its development

If you guys make a music video for this chassis, I have a song for you.

that could be a nice custom case mod...

just add some thin acrylic and you got yourself a proper case!

Well, maybe we'll provide it is accessory, since the idea behind it that of an open case that can be used as a test bech it makes sense for it to stay open as default :)

Will it have support for ssi CEB motherboards?

For now it supports  ATX, Flex ATX, mATX and ITX form factors - if there will be demand we might make it a tiny bit wider to support those too "_

but, if they did make easy to remove panels... like click on/off panels/ captive thumb screws, then seriously, it would be a great case for testing "optimal" and "realistic" performance... because most benchmarks is made in an open enviroment where the hardware can freely breathe... most cases are not test benches, so temps and OC headroom is all over the place...
