Is this build good/workable?

Hey guys, I have been working and studying about computers for the past 2 months and have come up with this build, I would love to hear some feedback if you guys want to contribute :) All suggestions will be appreciated!

This is a gaming rig for some editing but MOSTLY gaming in 1080p and maybe in the future a bigger monitor like 1440p :)

Already have a backup drive ;)

NO WATER COOLING PLS! (don't want leaky leaks)

If he isn't going to use Skylake features, why bother going for it? If gaming is the only thing, 1150 is still the best option.

Because in a generation or two he'll probably be able to still use his mobo and RAM.

Where is the SSD?

Agree. If you spend 2500 bucks on your pc, grab another hundred and chuck in an SSD already.

I'm not so sure about the PSU (it might be ok, @STRMfrmXMN can confirm or deny that)

Maybe an EVGA B2 (750W for $15 less) or G2, or XFX XTR (750W only $15 more) instead

Well, with an SSD it'll be absolutely usable. The 4790k should hold up for a good while, it's not like we'd expect Intel to blow everything away in two years. Performance wise, there will be basically no difference between a 4790k and a Skylake CPU.

Although if it's only for gaming you could consider a core i5 and spend a little less ;)

EDIT:

by 'absolutely usable' I mean that it will be pretty much the fastest PC that anyone around you has, unless you live solely with people from this very forum :P

EDIT 2: ADded SSD

i heard the dark rock is hell to install

so i'd pick a noctua nhd14 or nhd15 instead     ( some silent noctuah fans got a guaranty up to 6 years )

you can also save 100 bucks on the board if you dont need all the asus gimicks          the asrock z97 aniversary should do fine too

Soz lol I will never ever buy a phanteks case, they are for watercooling, I should have mentioned I dont want to water cool

Also 250gb is pretty much plenty for me for main drive and I have a backup drive somewhere lying around ;)

8gb ram is fine for gaming but 16gb is good if you have 200+ chrome tabs and using photoshop and adobe more than a lot.

The PSU seems to be the hardest part for me, everyone is suggesting so many different things people say I don't really see a reason to change to be honest unless I can see an actual difference between the power supplies.

Skylake really makes the mother boards cost more I think, if you can link a good motherboard for skylake that would be great :)

pls keep in mind budget

Alrighty. Also, you can use that Phanteks case and not watercool within it you know. It's not like you're bound to water cooling using one.

1. The Phanteks case is perfect, you don't have to water cool to have the case... it's just nice to have it incase you need it in the future.

2. Cool.

3. Get 16gb if you think 8gb will not be enough.

4. PSU is fine, best ones out there.

Not bound but why pay for a special feature when you are not going to use it? Define r5 or NZXT H440 or Corsair 780T seems to be my choices right now ;)

I will never in my life use water cooling and the define r5 seems to be a way better choice if you are not watercooling there is so many fan opportunities same with 780T or H440

Yea PSU seems to be a very selective choice and I think I trust corsair quite a bit I actually have bought their stuff and am very satisfied :) Thanks

So you'd rather spend more on a case that doesn't have future upgrade abilities....

Corsair PSU's are overpriced as hell... EVGA are better imho.

But meh, suit yourself.

? I will never ever watercool... like ever... even if someone handed me 20 grand worth of tubes I would sell it lol

don;t want water in my system, just sounds unnatural but that's just me I would understand why the phanteks case would be amazing for people who want flexibility but I am 100% sure on my choice :)

for the PSU I will go with whatever is available to me and I also agree with you :) I think either corsair or evga whichever one is available locally to me :)
