Which GTX 970?

Conex

I'm on a bit of a tight budget and I'm wondering if I'll be missing out on any discernible difference if I go for the cheaper Zotac ZT-90101-10P over some of the more expensive GTX 970s. They have higher core clock speeds but will I actually be seeing any noticeable difference in terms of framerates? Thanks in advance.

What res are you playing at? 1080p or 1440p?

If you want you could get the R9 390 which performs better than the 970 at 1080p and 1440p. Plus it has 8GB of Vram which will help at higher resolutions.

Also, please follow your topic. @Conex

That card is small and cute. But its really bad, its loud due to its 2 small fans. It runs hotter since it has a really small heatsink and it won't overclock well due to its poor power delivery. The go to card for a 970 is the Gigabyte G1. The r9 390 is also another excellent choice.

People, why do you always do this?  The OP has his mind made up on a nVidia 970 chipset.  Someone always has to come in and say "get a 390 or a 390X" or some other AMD POS. He/she didn't ask for your opinion on which vendor (nVidia or AMD), he wanted to know specifically about which nVidia 970.  Why can't you just leave people's decisions be?

I'll be playing at 1080p. I was thinking about the Strix but I'm just not sure it's worth £40 extra.

Because we look for the best performer, maybe op did not know that the 390 can be cheaper and is more powerful than the 970,no one said get the 390,only one person said to consider the card.

Yeah I didn't actually consider the 390 tbh, although from going through PC Parts Picker they seem to be more expensive than the GTX 970s in the UK.

I repeat, that's not what he/she asked.  He/she did not ask your opinion on AMD vs nVidia.  The OP could have a valid reason on why they are going with nVidia.

You could take a look at the powercolour PCS+ or Club3D for a 390. The last I checked, they were pretty close to the price of that Zotac and have better build quality by far. Couldn't find them on the pcpp list now though.

Get the R9 390. It is better in every measurable way.

It is also more likely to last longer (as it stands, there is A LOT of unused GPU horsepower in DX11 games due to drivers, but under DX12, the R9 390 has shown improvements of up to 40% just from using DX12 over DX11)

Even in DX11, the R9 390 is still 5-7% faster then a GTX 970 (stock vs stock)

In DX12, there has been early tests showing the R9 390 to overtake the GTX 980 in some cases.

Another 970 topic turned 390 topic. "Excuse me sir/madam, do you have a few moments to talk about AMD?" LOL

If anyone asks you never saw me.
