NAS Build

ConnorDahne

I'm looking to build a nas, and would like some opinions on which parts would perform best..
I'll be using old parts from former builds, except for hard drives..
I've never built a nas before, and really am only doing it because I can't afford to upgrade main but want to build  something..
Well lets cut to the part list, that's what everyone wants to read right? lol

Network Attached Storage.

Basically a separate machine that you can store your information to, and access from your other devices.

I would drop the GPU and I would go with an APU instead, I don't that will do much and that GPU I feel wouldn't do much.

I've already got the gpu's left over from previous projects or I would go with an APU

If you have them, cool but I don't think they will do much.

An APU would be more powerful than the Pentium, unless the pentium is overclocked.

I would go with what you have, but if you don't have a CPU and a motherboard, I would get an APU.

the thing is, yes an apu could be more powerful, but its sitting idle either way.

if he doesnt have a cpu/mobo, i'd more so recommend something like this: http://www.asrockrack.com/general/productdetail.asp?Model=C2550D4I#Specifications

they're basicly a NAS in a box.

I've got an i3 4130t, which has intel graphics built in..

I've been leaning more towards this cpu than the pentium because it's slightly lower clockspeed really doesn't matter that much in this situation.

And being a "T" model, it's low tdp could come in handy.

For mobo I'm planning on using this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128713

Because i already have it, and it has everything I'd really need.

6x sata ports

Raid control

M.2 slot

Ultra Durable model

looks good to me.

actually not too different from what's in my own file server.

although.. i still want to stab the person that decided to put an intel branded board in there...
