First time builder, need help

Go to solution Solved by Noyu,

Taguig City. due to some circumstances i cant really go to gilmore and i dont think i can go to dynaquest either im 95% sure that i will be buying from PCX even though the prices there are a bit higher compared to dynaquest. im also considering an r9 380 instead of gtx 960, what do you think?

r9 380 = 10k

gtx 960 = 13k

huge price difference + same performance (atleast 9% better according to some youtube guy)

there's a dynaquest in makati. still can't go there? R9 380 FOR DAYSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS shoot for a 4gb 380 though if possible

Budget: $700

Aim: Gaming

I am not very knowledgable about computers so I am really having a tough time choosing in which parts should i buy to replace my 8 year-old unit. I cannot shop online and my choices are very limited to what is available on the nearby computer store.

http://pcx.com.ph/components.html

http://dynaquestpc.com/

$1 = 50

Motherboard:

1. as long as it can hold an i5 4690 or i7-4790

2. must have 4 ram slots

3. will only use a single GPU

4. wont do any kinds of overclocking

5. cannot go more than $100

CPU:

1. i prefer intel

2. i have read somewhere that i7 is a must for rendering(maya?) but i can also settle for i5

3. no overclock

GPU:

1. nvidia

2. i will only use a single GPU

3. 2g DDR5 (or the cheapest 4g)

4. single monitor

5. games i play: Dota2, CS:GO, Civilization5, Skyrim

6. games i plan to play: DragonAge3, ElderScrollsOnline, and BlackDesert Online

PSU:

1. around $50

2. can i go lower than 500w?

3. Non-modular

4. must be 80+ bronze

Memory:

1. 4g min 8g max

2. can i use a slingle memory stick on a dual channel memory slot? :)

Case:

1. mid tower

2. i dont care what it looks like

Storage:

1. can i still use my old Hitachi HDT721010SLA360 ATA Device ?

2. no SSDs

PS:

i dont really muti-task and am used in playing games at the lowest settings around 20-25 fps

PPS:

i dont mind buying second hand parts (maybe except for the GPU)

Thanks!

Go for a Xeon for rendering. 1231 maybe?

Intel Core i7-6700K | Corsair H105 | Asus Z170I PRO GAMING | G.Skill TridentZ Series 16GB | 950 PRO 512GB M.2

Asus GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB STRIX OC | BitFenix Prodigy (Black/Red) | XFX PRO Black Edition 850W

Yeah I have to agree, maybe $200 or so more and it could probably be do-able

this is what I would build for the rendering stuff

but it doesn't have a gpu for gaming right now

you'd need to increase your budget for that

Why a Xeon?? It performs same as i7 and it's cheaper :D
Didn't include ssd and hdd since you have the 2nd one and don't want the 1st one...
And went over-budget, just 58USD more, not a big deal??
The only way to fit a gpu and don't go over-budget would be to swap that 970 that i put to a r9 380 and an ssd will probably fit in :P

IDK, I mean... the prices on the pcpartpicker could be decent but if you add up Philippine tax, they're usually jacked up. Taena kangkong.

The Xeon is extremely good for its price but unfortunately, scarce is an understatement for Xeons in the Philippines. I'm unaware of any computer store that sells that specific Xeon and the only way you could possibly obtain one is for someone to sell it on olx. If you were to order it online, the shipping cost and customs fee would make it even more expensive than an i7 not to mention the serviceability if it gets damaged during shipping or during its warranty period.

I do animation and I use an i5 but sad to say it's not enough for me, well at least for the stuff I do since it involves dynamics. A render would take me about 25+ minutes in a scene. You could preview the dynamics inside Maya but you won't see how the environment would influence it such as lighting, shadows, reflections unless you render it. But then again I only render to see how it would look and for cleaning noises, then would usually just preview it inside Maya but that's because I know what I want to see and if I touch the channels and attributes I know what would happen so I don't need to render every small thing that I change which might be troublesome for beginners as you might have to render every change you do as you might do too much, too less or might even touch the wrong attribute.

this is exactly what i needed to know :)

i searched for xeons but i dont think i can get it so should i just go for a 2nd hand i7 4790? im pretty sure i can get it for a little bit over $200. i dont really want to overclock

there arent many parts that i can choose from and they are usually more expensive so it is really hard for someone like me to build a half decent unit

honestly in my opinion, the i5 you had for cheap would do fine. my sandy bridge i5 did fine in autodesk inventor.

That sound like a good idea. Also, holy crap, only 84W TDP? Mine has 130w TDP O.o

that CPU will be easy to keep cool!
