Intel Core i9?

Here's my reasoning, and I don't think I'm too unreasonable too.

Intel should have separated their mainstream chips from their enthusiast, extreme chips by making them i9 instead of i7 - (Generation # + 1)xxx

I think this will make consumers feel even more "on a higher level" compared to just sharing the i7 name.

But you are making rookie mistake #1 here - assuming Intel naming means anything :P

It's been i7 for years and years. Why would they need to change it to i9? Probably make the prices go up even more. Come on people it's Intel. Lol

i9 would have made more sense in terms of marketing clarity as I often see people trying to pair extreme i7's with Z series boards think they're compatible similar to X770k chips.  I don't think it would serve any purpose to change it now though; would have only made sense back with X58 and LGA 1366 stuff, although back then extreme and consumer i7's where much more similar than they are now (most extreme chips were just higher clocked quad core i7's; only 980x and 990x were hexa-core chips like the standard is today)

Let's get real, if we wanted to make this logical, it would be something like this:

Intel XYYZAAB

where X is the edition (6 for now) YY is the core count (04 for i5, for example) Z is either a '+' for HT (like i7 and i3) or '-' for no HT (like i5) AA is the base frequency (37 for a 4770K for example) and as usual the K goes on the end or not for unlocked (in the B position)

So the 4770K would be an Intel 404+37K

But they would never go for something so logical

Holy crap, that name gives me shivers. Good shivers.

Also, Error- CPU not found.

Tip to those that are new on LTT forum- quote a post so that the person you are quoting gets a notification, otherwise they'll have no idea that you did. You can also use a tag such as @Ryoutarou97 (replace my username with anyone's. You should get a dropdown after you type the "@")to send a notification, but quoting is preferable.

Feel free to PM me about absolutely anything be it tech, math, literature, etc. I'll try my best to help. I'm currently looking for a cheap used build for around $25 to set up as a home server if anyone is selling.

If you are a native speaker please use proper English if you can. Punctuation, capitalization, and spelling are as important to making your message readable as proper night theme formatting is.

My build is fully operational, but won't be posted until after I get a GPU in it and the case arted up.

that's about as smart as AMD calling their high tier APUs the A12 series

The A12 has four CPU cores and eight GPU cores. It makes perfect sense.

I'm nat saying to change it to i9 now, but for it to have been i9 to start with... Man, people are so against change! ;)

Unnecessarily complicating things is unnecessary.

Well having an i9 to begin with would have made it less complicated wouldn't it? Instead of i7 (generation # + 1)xxx

Let's get real, if we wanted to make this logical, it would be something like this:

I say yes but I'm torn, if they did it it would be just like calling a mouse a 'gaming' mouse, the gaming is just a name, in performance or feature terms it means very little. How it is now the different branches (ix) have some feature unique about them, e.g i7 equals hyperthreading w/high performance cores, i3 = low performance cores w/ht and i5 = high performance cores w/o ht. If we were to make an i9 I don't think simply slapping the term 'gaming' or 'extreme' would cut it. But I would like to see a branch dedicated to the extreme range so that they have and a tag that makes it easily recognisable instead of random numbers.

Does it matter? There's also the chips that only people with deep pockets will ever buy, with the X at the end.

Anyways though, I'm not the one proposing an i9 series. :P

Basically what i'm trying to get at, they should make a fundamental distinction between extreme platform and mainstream instead of adding "EXTREME" or haswell EEEEEEEEEE

I would bet my left testicle all the name "i9" would do is give Intel a reason to charge even more money.

I am conducting some polls regarding your opinion of large technology companies. I would appreciate your response.

Microsoft Apple Valve Google Facebook Oculus HTC AMD Intel Nvidia

I'm using this data to judge this site's biases so people can post in a more objective way.
