Examples other than reference cooler? I swear lmao people hear that the reference 290X is a heater and all of the sudden the word around is that all of them are hot, loud, and not worth it...

4690K // 212 EVO // Z97-PRO // Vengeance 16GB // GTX 770 GTX 970 // MX100 128GB // Toshiba 1TB // Air 540 // HX650

from my experience, both those cards run at over 80 (sometimes 90) under load and are pretty loud

Then either

1. It was a reference cooler

2. There was some sort of thermal bottleneck, whether it be poor thermal paste, no airflow, bad ambient temp

3. You're lying for argument sake

The only notoriously bad 290/290X is the reference cooler.

The first is definitely better. Though, you might want to go with a modern 300 series card since they run cooler and better.

I used to be quite active here.

? i had the msi 280 for a short period of time, and it ran hot. While playing games like assassins creed or dishonored it was 80-84 usually and would always run over 75 no matter what game it was. And was loud enough for me to hear it through my headphones when there wasn't much sound going on. I'm a nvidia lover, because ive always had bad experiences with AMD cards

May I ask which model you happen to have tested?
