Hey guys, I recently built my gaming PC about 3-4 months ago, and I realized I was getting less performance than I expected. From further research, I realized my CPU and GPU aren't that great. I am planning to upgrade to an R9 390, but I am stuck because I am wondering if my CPU will bottleneck my GPU(I play battlefield 4 a lot, and I get 40 frames on ultra on multiplayer with a decent amount of things going on)?

If my CPU is a sad, square piece of crap painted grey with yellow pins, these are my options:

* Buying a decent cooler and overclocking my CPU

* Upgrading my 960 an R9 390(the original plan)

* Upgrading my CPU to an 8350 NOTE: This is my very last resort, because I don't want to spend the extra money, as I don't have a job. I was only planning to get an R9 390.

My system:

CPU: AMD FX-8320E

GPU: MSI GTX 960 4g

MOBO: ASRock 970 Performance

PSU: Corsair 750M

RAM: G.Skill 1866Mhz 8g

Upgrade that CPU first, then worry about graphics. Get an i5, preferably unlocked. All you need is a motherboard and CPU, so you can save money on RAM because you already have it.

The CPU is not great.

There is no point upgrading to a higher FX CPU (Upgrade to an intel i5 if you need more performance latter on) and I think you will be fine with battlefield with that CPU.

The 390 is a good choice

If you are getting 40fps on ultra where's your problem? 40fps isn't bad

Don't get me wrong, I would love to, but I'm very tight on money. I'm trying to get the best performance out of my money.

Unstable FPS, it dips and raises all the time. I would like to have it matched up with my monitor's refresh rate, which is 74. For me, I can't take below 60fps in any first person shooter games, therefore making 40 fps unplayable.

Dude, a 8320 is a just fine CPU for gaming, but you really should overclock that thing. Get a nice cooler and overclock it to your heart's content.

Well then there's not much else you can do other than overclock. BTW an i5 is cheaper than a 390, and would be better performance wise because a 8320 would bottleneck a 390 like crazy.

8320 is a terrible CPU. An i3 can beat it in some benchmarks, and an i5 leaves it in the dust.

Well, you're REALLY generalizing by saying an i5 leaves it in the dust. But even a lot of i3's are just fine for gaming, sure there will be a bottleneck but not by much. ESPECIALLY when overclocking

Thank you very much, I was starting to get worried.
