Massive new Skyrim [mod] expansion

So, you think you've seen everything there is to see in Skyrim eh? Well you haven't seen this. It's time to fire up the Skyrim, again.

 

 

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will turn four-years old in November and even today there are roughly 25,000 active players still playing Bethesda’s epic adventure on Steam. The modding community has been prolific in creating all manner of wild, whacky and even sometimes serious mods for the title, but a new mod-expansion released 3 October looks to be the biggest undertaking yet.

“The Forgotten City” is the result of over three years and 1,700 hours of work by sole modder (and Aussie!) Nick Pearce. Pearce describes “The Forgotten City” as, “a murder mystery investigation set in an ancient underground city. You’ll explore, interrogate suspects, navigate challenging moral dilemmas, fight new enemies, and solve puzzles that reward lateral thinking.”

This is not your run of the mill mod that improves graphics or adds Thomas the Tank Engine to the world. “The Forgotten City” is a brand new quest line, with full voice acting set in a brand new area of Skyrim.

 

Judging by the trailer, this mod is no joke.

 

Not only is it apparently extremely well made, it is fully voice acted.

 

Watching the trailer above, you may notice the very Patrick Stewart-sounding voice over. When asked about the voice actors in the game, Pearce explained that once he’d written the story and dialogue he put an open casting call out and had 150 actors from around the world audition for the 30 roles. In the end he had 18 voice actors record over 1200 lines of dialogue. The Patrick Stewart sound-a-like actually comes from Melbourne too.

 

“For the main protagonist and narrator, Jarl Metellus, I had this outrageously ambitious idea to ask for someone who sounded like Patrick Stewart,” Pearce said.  I cast James McLauchlan who once called me up and introduced himself as Jarl Metellus in his Patrick Stewart voice. For a second I seriously thought I had lost the ability to distinguish between reality and computer games.”

I'm downloading it already. I've been working on a playthrough of heavily modded Skyrim for a while now, and other than a slight issue with my map (when I move the camera around the map....the icons move. As if the map in skyrim wasn't a pain in the ass as it is.) I've been enjoying the hell out of it.

Edit: that's mod 163 BTW, and my GTX 970 is crying trying to play Skyrim at 1080p-I'm lucky to see above 45 FPS unless in a dungeon or home.

I might try this but right now I can't figure out what mod I uninstalled that removed all of my one handed weapon (just 1 weapon no shield or spell) animations. I even tried reinstalling several animation mods and nothing works they just float around whenever they need those movement animations.

Also, Kotaku went full retard when they said that it looks like Bethesda made it, Bethesda only makes buggy shit that modders need to fix-and this expansion doesn't fall into that category.

Install some insane grass mods, and that one mod that increases draw distance (to an insane extent), then run them in triple monitor surround (with widescreen fixer of course) and your 970 will commit seppuku

Its already doing that at 1080p on a single screen. BTW, I am using mods like that. (over 2GB vRAM usage at 1080p anyone?)

Its ok anyway, as you saw from the SS I have my 1024x768 monitor plugged in, and after playing Skyrim at 85FPS, I can stand the low resolution for the butter smooth gameplay.

Bethesda did something for the modders....they tried to made themselves rich by basically stealing the bulk of their profits on the paid mods thing.

No but in all seriousness, both Dragonborn and specially Dawnguard were decent enough expansion-like DLCs

Was yukl YY anime replacer Mystic knight your old animation?

 

Been fighting skyrim issues myself ever since I updated xp32 skeleton and changed the mods I was using for HDT.   Which btw if you updated xp32 skeleton, it may monkey about with ones animations if they weren't careful when installing.  Look in your MCM at the bottom under xpmse if that's the case and select the animations you were using and have installed there, or reinstall the skeleton and look at the options during the installer.

 

Once I get "stuff" sorted it's off to morthal for Amorous adventures update, then probably the forgotten city.  Looks quite cool.

I've been wandering around in this place for about an hour. I'm terrified, have no idea where to go, and checking literally every nook and cranny for clues and items. Luckily for me I always "cheat" at the beginning of a skyrim playthrough and make my carry weight something like 10000.

 

Still terrified.

Still amazed at how good this is.

 

Still wondering how long it will take Bethesda to give this dude a job. Fucking seriously. There is more atmosphere in this place than I have ever experienced in ANYTHING in skyrim, be it a mod, or "original content".

 

Fucking 10 thumbs up, Chuck Norris approved, hells yeah.

The voice acting sounds off to me, compared to the rest of Skyrim. I'm no audiophile so I can't exactly say why, but I know that I have tinnitus, and the voice acting in mods still sounds off, compared to the voice acting in the base game + original expansions.

 

Granted, it is done well in this, but I can still tell that it is different than the original voice acting. I just can't put my finger on what the difference is.
