3d Printer on the CHEAP :)

Drackeo

Hey im a collage student so im broke AF! But i really want to try getting into 3d printing. Im wondering if there are any cheap 3d printers out right now? Like a full desktop one. Build volume isnt an issue. My searches are coming up with nothing  :D  :P

Or a cheap CNC machine lol. I just want to get into the maker space :)

If you're a college student living the poor life, i'd save an expensive hobby like 3D printing for a later time when you're more financially stable...

I have money (not as big of an issue as i make it sound) Im just looking to get into it and not spend like $1000+ on one. Something around $400-$500 is well within my budget and will fit my needs

Build a robot with the 3d printing pen(forgot the name) and use a program to take the 3d models to control the motors, that ought to be cheap

This is by far the best one out there for the money. And yes, it is upgradeable.

wasnt there a kickstarter for a 100$ desktop 3d printer ? what ever happened to it cause i was looking for a cheap 3d printer just to make some small stuff like a gopro case or a gpu support and some cable combs, and obviously it would be better to go buy those things then spending 500-700$ to make it myself

ya, onece 3d printers become more mainstream prices will go down and they will be more popular, its like when the 4k screens came out, there expensive for the early adopters but the price will eventually go down as it becomes more popular

Folger technologies has a Prusa i3 kit that goes for $269. It has a 2020 aluminum extrusion frame that is fairly sturdy, but this is a kit that you will need to assemble. I got this kit 2 months ago and for the price I can't complain. It takes some patience and time to assemble though, and at least in my experience I had to make a few modifications before I had it working to my liking.

Here's a link to their website.

It is an open source printer so you can use any software that will slice a .stl file and output g-code. I started using Repetier Host, but the I started using Cura as my slicer and like it more than Repetier.

I'd get a printrbot or an m3d. Currently the m3d is going for $300, but build volume is a thing you wont have. From what I've heard, as long as you get good first layer adhesion (use aqua jet or elmers glue and water or something) it's pretty damn fine. I would recommend getting some colorfabb filament from your favorite distributer (printedsolid.com is the cheapest US distributer I've found so far). If you could afford it, I will always recommend an ultimaker, but an m3d should do the trick. Also, it's $350.

I wouldnt eve touch that one. It is very poorly designed with basically no rigidity whatsoever. It wont give you good quality prints, that i can guarentee.
