old games, new graphics card

Hello,

I have one question.

I have an ASUS Z97 MAXIMUS VII RANGER ROG, I7 4790K, ASUS STRIX OC GTX970, Corsair Vengeance pro 1866 2x8gb.

I have my gtx 970 and one monitor philips 234e5 with 2 hdmi inputs and one VGA input.

if i put and old gpu near my 970, someting like 8500gt, 6800gtx , 8400gs , can i use my old gpu for old games? and let gtx 970 stay? and when i want to play battlefield 4, i need to activate gtx 970? PS: I want to use the same monitor for both gpus

 

Or to solve this, i realy have to build and ol' Pentium 4 build? thanks...

You should be able to play your old games on the new video card, there's no need for a second computer or a second video card.

Quick question.

Why not just use your new GPU to play both old and new games?

You should be able to play your old games on the new video card, there's no need for a second computer or a second video card.

Actually, there is a reason. Dragon Age 2 runs HORRIBLY on my relatively modern 860m (I'm talking about 25fps on 1080p). I assume it would run better on cards from launch time.

Don't know why it won't run well with a new GPU. Sounds more like an OS issue than video card. have you tried compatablity mode first?

You can fit an old GPU in one of the slots and plug it into a different plug on the monitor, such as the VGA one. I think that works

Plenty of old games won't run on a modern PC, take Fallout 3 for example. It has more to do with the CPU though, many games freak out if more than one core is used.

Strangely enough the old PC version of FF7 doesn't freak out at all and works on windows 95 and up. You do need the Windows XP patches though

ja, there are tons of "fixes for Fallout 3 for windows 10 but they all fail after extended play time. I'm thinking about turning an old desktop I was give into a Fallout 3 machine because of it. It's not windows, I know plenty of people on windows 7 and above that don't have an issue/ It's the CPU or GPU.
