Meaning they are meant to be used within close proximity of you.

Logitech Z-2300. Pretty amazing 2+1 system that I bought in like 2006 for about $80. Not as good as the two Pioneer 10" with a Sansui 150W RMS amp I had hooked up before, but they still sound great and take up so little space.

Still rocking my Logitech z5500s from when I got them way back when, haven't had any reason to replace them.  Even got an SPDIF Optical switcher so I can use the one optical input for my main rig, my HTPC, and the audio out from my TV for audio passthrough (for the Wii U and Xbox 360).  Get Dolby Digital from my HTPC and couldn't be happier :D

The speakers i use at my computer is a pair of M-Audio BX8 d2. Not entierly satisfied though, they got great bass in songs which got much bass but in "normal" songs they kinda fall off because they lack quite a bit of mid bass. ( the display is a 24" so you can imagine the size of them)
