Upgrading my boss's store pos to a wifi store pos

DartNk

To start, my boss's old system is still using a dos based program. Understandable to an extent. Her credit card machine is still using a dial-up connection, tying up the phone line for our to-go's/deliveries. Took some time to convince my boss to move up to a e-based pos (ipad, tablet, etc) with a card reader. The repeater idea would only work if we were near the stairs and wouldn't work well as it kept disconnecting every so often.

TL;DR

The Issue- since it is all wifi based and her "Home" is upstairs, which means her router is up stairs. The Floor is concrete, that happens to be the ceiling for the store. She bought a wifi repeater, I told her it wouldn't work. The concrete is 6 inches thick.

EDIT: The printer for the receipts is an Ethernet based printer

What other soultions would work?

I was suggested a AP( I don't think would work at all since it would be like the repeater.)

Another would to be just drill a hole through the concret. (I don't have the tool's for it.)

that has nothing to do with it. we can't get the wifi to connect through the concrete..

I forgot to say that the printer needs the Ethernet cable

Run an ethernet cable down the wall? Maybe outside if you cover it in electrical tape to the side of the building?

The walls are concrete as well the building was built in the 70's or 80's. Windows would be an option, but she doesn't want to do that as we are located downtown. Again the ceiling is concrete. so the whole building is sealed off from the upstairs. we are trying to avoid paying her company to come drill a hole for the outrageous quote. on top of that, the way station is in the center-ish of the store.

yeah, lol I agree. I suggested that we bridge connection with a laptop and have it sit above the ceiling tiles. Which I have a few older ones laying around, but that is not a good idea at all. If it comes to it we could just fork the money over the company to do it. .... or have her buy the concrete bit and rent the right drill. which is still expensive.

its easy...rent a concrete drill with a big enough drill bit..and just run the line from upstairs to downstairs into a business class switch and wifi device

the drill would probably be like 30$ to rent from home depot

true, but when I called our home depot they told us to call this other place which I forgot the name and they said $100 for the 24 hrs and both places the bit was around $15-$20. I'm sure I can do it.  The guy on the phone at home depot sounded new so I could just go there tomorrow.

thats bs...the guy at home depot was a moron then

cause Ive rented a concrete drill from home depot for 45$ canadian...tho I did already have the drill bit..so I didn't need to rent that...just make sure you have someone spraying a little bit of water on the drill bit as you drill..and be totally sure of where you are drilling to

Thanks for the tips, I'll post if it worked out. I just hate working on older buildings. Never know exactly what will happen.

Powerline. That is your option.

Didn't work as said before.

its cool, we tried that and failed. The building is two separate domains. so the power lines don't run together.
