Safe to ship a watercooled system across the Atlantic ocean?

Title about sums it up...

I lived in norway, but am attending Uni in Canada, and due to space constraints, I had to leave the desktop behind.

I thought of dismantling the parts, and bringing everything but the case, but since the system is watercooled, that would have been a royal pain in the but.

I have the original case box, but since I'm not there the preparation for shipping won't extend to removing the gpu...

I have never shipped anything this far, and I'm not even sure if its worth the risk right now, as my laptop is quite capable.

Would love to have your guys' input on this...

Drain it

It would be pretty hard to tell my parent how to drain the system over skype, when it would be difficult for me (loop dosent really have a drain port).

Worse come to worse, I would have to let any leaked fluids dry before using the system (but it is colored, so that might eba  pain)

Why are you giving your parents a PC with a water setup?

I'd drain and dismantle it then package all the components very well in individual boxes and then ship the case in it's box. It may cost more but the chance of it surviving are MUCH higher.

how much have you put into the system also any glass or acrylic because it most likely wont survive a boat ride

If you have a techy friend have them do it?

I didn't have the space/ time to take it with me when I went to Uni, so it's just sitting back home right now.

I've got an acrylic midplate, but If the weight of the pump isnt on it, it should be fine.

Have them sell it then have them send you the money and build a new rig in Canada, if you ship it your going to pay a hefty amount to ship it and risk damaging it, if you don't ship it over the Atlantic it will lose a lot of value by the time you finish university.

Build a mini ITX rig and bring it in your carry-on when you go home for breaks/holiday.

Having a tech savy friend would be much safer :P You can even walk him / her through it one skype for double security.

It should be all good, since he's got a more overkill setup than me (480mm worth of rads, and 2 780's)

The value of the norwegian kroner isn't quite high enough right now for that to be a viable option. the most I could get from my setup would be like 7000nok, which is a little over 1000 CAD, and while I could get something like a 970, and an i5, it would be tight...

I've done stuff like painting the case, and a custom midplate, so I would like to keep it...

I see that but I'm just putting the suggestion out there, where in Canada are you going to university just curious if it's near where I live.

I'm in Nova scotia, so it's quite a ways from where you are xD

I was thinking of going to Saskatchewan, but that plan didn't come into fruition...

Relatively speaking, NS isn't too far from the Rhode islands. still like 300km line of sight but still (I still have to get used to how far away places are here, after living in norway for all these years)

I think it's like a 8 hour drive or something like that to Nova Scotia.

Cool just as long as you don't go to university in Quebec.

Haha, I'm starting to notice that Quebec is bit of the odd one out here...

Funnily enough, because I did French in highschool my parents wanted me to apply in a few places in Quebec as well, but they use the term fluent very, very loosely xD
