R9 390 and getting fps lag in GTA V and other games.

Xplod2064

I had a R9 270X and I swapped it out with a new MSI R9 390 and went into GTA V and was getting fps drops on my original settings that I had with the R9 270x. Any ideas temps are fine and got enough power going to the gpu??

Could be your 6300, possibly. Isn't exactly the most powerful CPU for modern day games, especially if you crank those settings up.

I had a OSD in GTA and the cpu was only at 50-60%

No, he has a 1080p display, they don't "bottleneck" until higher resolutions.

You should've replaced that shitty cpu first

But it is not maxing out or hot its at 34C under load.

Ik it's just bad. If you're just gaming you should've gone with an i3

His cpu isn't at 100% while gaming.

But how when its not 100% used it makes no sense. the FX 6300 is not a bad processor.

My Pentium bottlenecked my 970 badly even when it was at similar CPU loads in games. GPU usage with vsync off is the better metric for whether you're getting bottlenecked.

There would be less bottleneck at higher resolutions.

It doesn't matter if it's 100% or not, the FX series is awful for gaming. That's what is causing this. My 390 can max GTAV out at 60+FPS 1440P.

Did you try the latest Catalyst 15.9.1 Beta drivers?

Yea i just tried it not long ago.

Nein. The higher the resolution, the less of a bottleneck. Games become more GPU dependent the more pixels you put on the screen.

I can use VSR or whatever its called to change it to 2560x1440p would that help?

It's not actually 34º.

The only solution is to get an Intel CPU or OC the hell out of your 6300.

I did overclock it and made hardly any change.

How much?

like 5 fps. But it honestly does not make sense. It is not maxing out, it is not overheating. If those are not maxed or overheating I should be fine and therefore no need to upgrade the cpu.

like to 4.4ghz

That's not nearly enough to get that thing going in GTAV. GTAV is very CPU intensive and FX cores just aren't strong enough.

Just because you don't go to 100% usage of the CPU that doesn't remove the possibility your CPU is at fault. What other games do you play? Pick one as graphically demanding as GTA and see if it's better. GTA and Witcher are demanding of the CPU.

If anyone asks you never saw me.
