Creating a Video Editing/Gaming build for my Girlfriend. Will the i5 be enough?

Spookies_

She uses Sony Vegas, and wants to game with it too. Budget was $600 max, hopefully under $550. I have a few people on /r/HardwareSwap that are selling stuff for cheaper, so the build sits around $515. I have a old 500gb hardrive that She'll be using, and will probably upgrade sometime soon.

Will the i5 be enough? Thanks.

Edit: Added 16gb of RAM, swapped out the GPU to a GTX 950.

Mobo recommendation?

get 16 gb of ram, editing/rendering is a pain on ram

I thought editing was more CPU heavy than RAM heavy?

Stay away from ECS mobos (never heard of them), you don't need an aftermarket cooler on a locked CPU and you could go with a Xeon 1231v3 for a hyperthreaded i5 although it's more expensive. Also, @Spookies_, remember to follow your threads.

Follow? I'm stupid

Any other mobo recommendations? Also, would a GTX 950 be a better choice and get more RAM?

Top rightish corner of page (nearer to the top right of first post) is a follow button, do that on your own threads. A 950 would be a better choice by a lot and 16GB RAM is where editing starts but 8GB is fine for the time being.

EVGA or ASUS? Either will fit in the case, I have no idea which to use. Performance/Heat are the biggest factors, not size

I'd go with Asus (Cause I have experience with an Asus board) idk about EVGA though.

ASUS and EVGA both have great coolers so choose which one looks nicer/ is cheaper. As for motherboards,http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asrock-motherboard-h81mitx and http://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-motherboard-h81i

That would be fine :D but I'm pretty sure B85 boards have USB 3 headers, so you could look at some of those, any vendor but ECS and Biostar should be fine.

Updated the build, how does that mobo/cpu combo work? Will the cooler be enough?

A cooler is not needed when you are not using the "K" chips for overclocking. The stock cooler for that I5 is fine. Save yourself the $10.

My new Gaming PC.

In the original post you haven't edited in the new build, and what @Mcmole said about the cooler.

Other than that it should be good to go :D

So with the i5-4590 it won't need a different cooler? No problems with thermal throttling?

Any Intel CPU without a k or x at the end of it's name will work just fine with the stock cooler. It's only when there is a k or x at the end when you need an aftermarket cooler (or a c, e.g: i5-4690k, i7-5775c, i7-5960x)

Ah, thanks! Any other improvements I can make?

In all honesty, the PSU could be upgraded to a modular one. So the EVGA GS 650W would be great for this :P

Funny, there is a guy on /r/HardwareSwap offering a CX500M for $30, so I'll probably be buying that

Ah, now, one word of warning, the CX series from corsair is only meant for basic office builds and don't use as good components, hence the cheaper price. If your going to look for a modular PSU, the EVGA Gs series or anything seasonic or super flower are great.

Yep. I was planing on just stuffing the spare cables in the corner of the case. Would there be any problems using it in a gaming/editing setting? I have a EVGA 500W and I have yet to have a problem with it

The CX? It may overheat and shutdown due to it's low operating temperature but the EVGA one would be good in such a scenario.
