I have a Seagate HDD from 2003 that was still running the last time I checked it.

It had a lot of f*cking hours of usage.

The SSD in my laptop (which I got in July) is at 1000 hours.

My desktop HDD is at 5600 hours. It's almost 2 years old.

SAMSUNG SpinPoint HM250HI 5400rpm - 4341 hrs

When it comes to storage, flash memory and vacuum cleaners, SAMSUNG is good.

Phones? Still a lot to learn.

All three of my SSDs (840 EVO) have been up for about 4500 Hours. I have an external RAID of 2x 2TB Seagate barracuda that Crystal Disk can't get any info on, but the up time is around the same for one of the drives, and longer for the other drive.

EDIT: Apparently I have 4TB Total Host Writes on my boot SSD array

What is the expected lifetime of a consumer grade hard drive?

Depends on operating conditions, but the current warranty for Blues is 2 years.

Really tough call.

http://www.extremetech.com/computing/170748-how-long-do-hard-drives-actually-live-for

I used to replace my HDDs after 20-25k hours.  Better safe than sorry and all that.  Apparently 92% of HDDs survive the first year,

The ones in the NAS are just 2.5 months old, so that won't be too much yet.  Probably still under 2000.  Those should last a bit longer and probably won't be replaced before they start to die.

My PC's 850PROs have about 3900 hours (one is on Linux and CrystalDiskInfo doesn't see that one, but the other 2 were placed at the same time and show 3900-ish hours) and my 840EVO is at 5750 hours.

My netbook's OCZ Agility3 had 16k hours the last time I checked

CrystalDiskInfo will give you that information. The program in that snapshot is Samsung's Magician software.

My Crucial MX100 256GB (SSD) has 10380 power on hours. I've had it since around July 2014.

My Hitachi 320GB has 58581 power on hours. It came with a desktop we bought in 2007 and I've been using it in all of my PC's since with no issues. I'm sure it'll die pretty soon, but until it does, I'm going to keep using it.

RIP in pepperonis m8s
