Is 4GB of VRAM enough

vpavlicevic
Go to solution Solved by Kobathor,

R9 390 is better performance for a better price.

If you're super anal about temps, the 970 is better. But, it has less VRAM and is generally less future-proof (as games get more demanding the 390 will definitely help you with the 8Gb VRAM.)

Considering going with R9 390(maybe even X) or 970. Because it is going to be used for a long time would you recommend me going with 970 or R9 390 because of VRAM

For what resolution?
For 1080p and 1440p mostly: yes.

For 4K mostly: yes, although more can help at that res.

I believe the R9 390 is a slightly better card for the price

970 is honestly better or comparable at 1080p anything above go with 390

also i know no one will say 970 even has a place but 970 is more power efficient and runs less hot so if ocing you will do better with 970 at lower resolutions so you get my answer which is my OPINION.

The 970's 4GB of Vram will suffice at resolutions up to 1440p, but dont think about getting a 390 with 8GB just to play 4K cause these cards arent made for that :P Otherwise they are pretty much equal.

1080p is resolution settings are ultra

Right now. 4 is enough, however games are starting to use more and more. If you plan on keeping the same GPU for two or more years, get a 390/x

2GB is not really enough if you ask me - 3GB is barely scraping by for maxed settings so 3.5GB ain't really recommended for "futureproofness"
