Costume PC? Is that like getting an ordinary PC case and dressing it up? :D
Jk, if you are used to Mac, then get a Mac, if you want to experiment then build a hackintosh. :)

Depends what you are doing with it. If you want to consume media or maybe edit photos (but not video) you should go with the iMac. If you're editing videos, more intense tasks than watching YouTube in 4K, then go with a custom PC.

Custom would be better performance/value per dollar.

Depends on what you want to do on the PC.

i suggest making a custom hackintosh, tough if you have no experience with something like this it might be a bit challenging. you could build a monster PC for the price of a imac tough :P

Costume PC. Wearables are awesome.

If you like OSX, then buy a Mac. I wouldn't buy the 5K iMac. 5K displays are so expensive that even with the discount that iMac had initially (the Mac part of it was essentially being bundled in for free), the specs aren't fantastic and if you want to spend that amount on a Mac you're better off buying a Mac Pro.

Hackintoshes are more trouble than they're worth for most people. They're something you build because you want the project, not because they're a simple or efficient solution.

Unless you really need a 5K screen, maybe try a unix-like if you are a OSX enthusiast, or just go cold turkey unless you care about things like command lines etc.

it depends, if you really want to have a 5k screen then the price of a 5k monitor alone is really close to that of an 5k iMac, but if you want performance, more storage option, more functionality you should have a custom pc. I don't really recommend hackintosh because it is very unstable and hard to set up. Linux might be more similar to apple os, although it don't have as much software for it like microsoft office etc. if want to play games then windows might be the best option.

Custom would be better performance/value per dollar.

Custom is also more kernel panics per dollar ;)

OP, head on over to Tonymac forums and have a chat with the people from there. They can provide you with a list of components to build a hackintosh for less $$ and get better performance.

Even better if you have or manage to pick up an old Apple G5 case!
