Steam refunds will stay on your Steam account. So you can't get them full back.

Hey guys,

for explanation, here's a little explanation why i'm in this situation.

In May, i built my first PC (specs in the sig). It's only for work loads like rendering and a little bit of gaming and I'm using the notebook for every day work, but my dad didn't want me to have it. So it took a long time (almost a month) that i got a restricted internet connection (wlan, guest access) on the pc which i needed for playing any recent games. I bought GTA V as dvd box for the looks, played 2 hours DJ and then started playing the story mode, online wasn't possible because the guest access is limited on available ports (only surfing and mailing). Yesterday, i saw that cities: Skylines was half the price on steam, so i took the opportunity and made a steam account and bought cities skylines via paysafe card.
The problem is: I first bought the game and then installed the steam client. When i open the steam client, I can not login because the ports steam requiers are blocked on the guest access. So i have now some options:

would you:

1.) try to convince my dad to get a full access on the wlan (which may never happen or take another year)

2.) start steam refund (allthough i don't know whether the money will be payed back on the paysafe card or stay as steam money)

3.) find another way.... but don't know what.

(having the password for the full access doesn't work, the wlan allows only specified mac adresses)

Thanks for your help!

It's kind'a strange - steam is just a sort of a web browser, it should not require any specific ports to be opened.

But anyways, you need to find a compromise and get a full access to your net.

Just the only good way.

i would say try your best to try to think of ways to convince your dad and in the meantime you might as well refund it

that was my intention too, but the communication of steam runs over ports the fritzbox doesn't allow

does he see that in the log file (if there is any on the fritzbox) that another pc name was with the same mac address online?

First of all, thanks for your replies.

I didn't want to "hack" into the better wlan and better wlan isn't in sight so i ordered a refund. I got it and now I wait on my money which I know stays on the steam account.

To get rid of that problem i asked one of my friends if they need something for about 14-15€ at steam so now I'll donate one of my friends the dreampack 1 of assetto corsa and i get my money. (except 1 ct;))

Just get into the modem and unlock the ports you need. Or direct steam to open ports.
