Intel Pentium G4500 - Good enough for a home NAS?

Hello,

I am looking now to buy a CPU for my home network attached storage machine and I am looking for a CPU that does the job well and does not need to be pricey for something that is not as needed in terms of power.

The current one I'm looking at is Intel Pentium G4500, this processor LGA1151 socket what is perfect and only runs 47W of power. Also it has 2 cores and 2 threads. (PS. This is a new pentium processor, not one from like 10 years ago. It was released a couple of months to a year ago.)

Another question, what would be the difference with the Intel Pentium G4500 and the Intel® Core™ i3-6100 (Apart from the GHz)

Thanks.

since it's a nas, not a home server it doesn't have to be as powerful as a mid-range pc but it has to get the job done, if only you and another person is going to use it at the same time then it will should work excellently, for the other question, i'm not that familiar with intel enough

Should be more than good enough!
The i3 has 2c/4t. I don't know how many users and how much workload would there be, but the Pentium should handle everything fine. I've seen big NAS boxes run on Atoms which are really weak compared to a Pentium. :)

It will get the job done. The i3 just has hyperthreading so it has 2 cores but 4 threads and will give you a better experience, faster that what the pentium would, if a lot of people are using the nas at the same time
