Sena17

Well my HDD is getting slow, don't tell me to buy a new one, I already am building an entire new system.

Any ideas on how to help?

Scan for viruses and check its status with CrystalDiskInfo

EDIT: Oh, and defrag it.

Make.Model.Type?

Near Full?

How slow? Provide "AS-SSD" (works on HDD's too)  results or something...

/Some defrag programs put certain types of system files at the start of the drive, could be slightly faster.

Some also can put more frequently used files towards the start section of the drive, some (o&o defrag) can even allocate folders to start/middle/end of drives, finetuning further.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Try doing an hdd defrag

This.

Also, try deleting unnecessary files; the more files you have, the longer it takes to index locations.

Well, its a prebuild computer's standard Toshiba 1TB 7200 hdd. Its nothing special. I can use Crystal Disk Info if you want

HDDs are pretty cheap, 500gb for like 30 or 40 USD

I'm building a new system in a year with a 256gb ssd and a 4tb hdd.  Don't bother.

While I'm at it, does anyone have any ideas for speeding up a harddrive's boot time?

Removing ALL drives from the boot order EXCEPT the one.

Removing all un-needed services from starting up with windows...

This you MUST read a guide for, if you disable random shit. your asking for trouble.

Apart from that, shit out of luck, the drive can only do what its capable of... so removing some startup items/services can some a little bit, but its not a night and day difference either... it would still be barely noticeable.

If you have a metric SHIT-TON of startup programs, remove them, and put an icon on the desktop for them to run manually after windows loads, not have them run on startup.

Maybe changing the boot order in bios ?

For some reason, my motherboard doesn't like me trying to enter the bios and literally wont let me access it.

Sometimes its a case of the USB keyboard not activating (even with USB-bios options enabled)until Windows gets loaded.

I have a keyboard that wont work to get into the Bios, and have a spare keyb just for that.

I could try all the keyboards in my house to see if it works

Might be a good idea :L

Hey there Sena17,

I'd check the S.M.A.R.T. status of the drive and see what's the condition of it. If you have a hard time reading it, feel free to post it here. :)
I'd also check for any bad sectors that might have appeared across the drive.
You may be able to disable some of the applications that start whenever you boot your computer and thus speed up the process a bit.
Defragging the drive might also give some good results on the performance.

You can use a regular website to upload your photo and then simply post the link here or attach the link as a URL for the image to show up from the "Image Insert" button: GQSy3fx.png

Or you can use the "More Reply Options" and use the "Attach Files" option at the bottom. :)

~snip~

According to the S.M.A.R.T. that you've posted the drive looks pretty good. Do try the other things (defragging, disabling other programs, checking your other hardware). You can also try benchmarking the drive and compare the results to the ones in its spec sheet. :)
