can you use a 1440p display to show 1080p for consoles etc.

so my pc can definitely handle 1440p and even more well when i get my final parts in the mail however i still enjoy playing console games such as the wii u and things like that, but those display the games at 1080/720 however can it still display it fine despite the pannel having more pixels.

yes yes yes. As long as you stay at 16:9 ratio, you should be fine.
