yes. even though there aren't real cars and real tracks, there are mods available for it. the only real cars are the formula bmw cars.

granturismo thing was a joke :P

actually most people i know tried nords in gt4 first out of anything.

so is assetto corsa's ring better than pCars for sure? I mean I have my opinion... but what is closer to the real thing? (I've never been there so I wouldn't know... Though if you send me a paid trip there i will gladly go xD)

assetto corsa has the best version of nords that you can get on the market today, while iRacing has a great version their ffb is still well ugh. If they can sort that 12 year old sim out then it will best assetto corsa's version.

Simply put the iRacing track would be better if it wasnt on such an old engine.

The game is over 10 years old, older than the original rFactor. I used to play it around 2006-2007 for some tandem action.

GT4 is where I learned nord. Believe it for not, I've probably done more laps of nord in GT4 than any other game to date. It actually wasn't that bad, to be honest. ;)

Patch 1.4 and Dream Pack 3 are up! Discounted price for once, which I am extremely happy about because both of the previous DLCs were a bit too expensive imho. Taking a break from work today to give these a whirl!

12395584_10153654676571815_1243823738_n.

Double attached as a screenshot.

And yes that write up is still coming today... I've been distracted by DiRT Rally. The game runs surprisingly smoothly at 1440p, maxed out on the detail front. FFB is a but dull but the cars drive brilliantly and the stages are amazing.

I've wanted a hatchback Subaru for the longest of times and when I saw this SRTUSA car... I just had to. Also fell in love with the Rally Germany stages... this one took me a while to master but it was well worth the effort, especially with so many beautiful handbrake turns!

So remember the write up from last week for AOR and the upcoming DLC stuff? Yeah, put that off for another few days. SUPER behind on work and last exam is friday... oops. Still plenty of content to render away while I study so I leave you with this.

Starting off, can proudly announce that I had my first good race result in AOR! It just so happens that four of the regular drivers couldn't make it this week, and it was a daylight race, so things were looking pretty good... although it was at Sonoma, a track I've actually never driven before prior to this week. Only have the first few laps rendered as I'm waiting for my teammate to send me the replay file because my game decided to lock up and black screen on the second last lap, only to fully crash a lap later (thankfully I had crossed the finish line by then). Qualified P14 out of 17 starters, up to P8 by L4. Had a few too many half-spins than I wanted but surprisingly no damage incurred over 36 laps (until the aforementioned lock up that sent me out of control, head-first into a wall).

Tires still felt great past my pit window so I extended the stint, somehow managed to undercut my teammate (zip.plummer) and had a good duel with him for the next 15 laps. He closed the 15 second gap down to 2 seconds, then spun and gave me back my 5 second gap. By the time my game crashed, he had closed it back down to 1 second but it would have been the penultimate lap and I was confident I would be able to hold him off. I was never going to be able to maintain the gap regardless; his 1:30 pace was logically faster than my 1:32 pace, but as you can see below I was surprisingly consistent for once! P8 and P9 finish for both cars, meaning good points for American Audi Sport of Canada!

mbxhdelqwrpzafyebnm8.png

There's a two-week break now for the holidays, and the next race is at Dubai so... who's up for some friendly practice racing over the holidays??

And you can't go talking about DLC without mentioning Assetto Corsa. Yes, Dream Pack 3 dropped yesterday, and yes I do already have everything recorded. A long 7 hours that was, and for a benchmark time I took out the C7.R to evaluate the track. 1:29-1:30 seems to be the standard for the really fast stuff and my word... the Huracan and AMG GT3 are fantastic to drive!

As for how the model stacks up to Project CARS' version, AC's model is definitely more accurate. pCars track surface has a lot of little nuances and random bumps that kick the car up into the air for no reason. The racing lines are more or less the same, and you can easily attain the same lap times (I seem to be faster in pCars, but it may be familiarity bias and my belief that the tires give better feel overall).

Oh, and I decided to take the 1,200 hp Gallardo on the ring for a spin. I don't know why I thought that was a good idea, but 340 kmh vmax down the straight is definitely nice! The car comes stock with 0 rear wing, and I could only manage 320 at Monza (1966) so I'm not sure how much further it can go. Still don't know the track as well as some of us here, but it's getting there!

GUESS WHO IS DONE EXAMS, WOOOOOT.

To celebrate here's a sneak peak of the upcoming RS01 that I drove for the better part of an hour. Really fun car, not too hard to drive once you get used to the weight but the rear end takes no prisoners. Be careful under >80% throttle and under hard braking; also take it suuuper easy on cold tires. Seventh gear was fun but you never really get to use it.

Between rendering sessions I may or may not be on tonight, for either pCars or aCorsa depending on who is up for it. Going to be leaving my "office" for a little under 2 weeks which means no wheel unfortunately, though I'm driving my PC back with me because... yeah, can't trust roommates.

Ah JonZ... I knew that animation style looked familiar!

He's very highly regarded in the pCars community though I haven't come across any of his posts as far as I know. One of his videos, Louder Than Words, was spotlighted by SMS a few months ago but he's been blowing up since the Alpha days. Cinematography and post-production skills are definitely some of the best in YouTube imho.

But really, the framing and flow of all his videos are superb. Definitely an inspiration.

And so my grueling two weeks without a wheel begins! PCars DLC drops tomorrow! As usual, the DLC is out in New Zealand first.

And as usual, EmptyBox's take on both v1.4 of Assetto Corsa and Dream Pack 3.

Yeah, the RXC Turbo (Road A is this months free car) and the Renault Sport DLC comes with five cars, though some outlets are telling people there's a secret sixth when SMS have said that the Laguna is being held for a future DLC, so who knows.

Dream Pack 3 gives us the Lotus 25 and 72D, two cars I'm sure you'll enjoy a lot :) They drive quite differently compared to pCars but the performance is similar.

Yep, I've already got the DP3 for Assetto. Tested them all out on Brands GP quite thoroughly the other day. ;)

I'm gonna have to try tweaking my FFB setting in Assetto again. Don't know what it is but my G27 bangs around like crazy in that game - even after my "modification" to reduce that noise. Small bumps are way too sharp. Pcars, on the other hand is much more smooth.
