We all know that i always hold a World cancer week (and will be to in 2016) but Now i want that all Members of LTT would donate there Computers strength for the whole month of December Lets end 2015 Folding with a bang for the LTT team i want to see ltt pas the 2 Billion mark  for 1 month who is all up for the challenge?

 

Tag all of you're friends in this thread let we end 2015 for folding with a BANG

Why do people fold? I really don't understand the concept, even mining at this point doesn't make any sense to me as it's profit potential is nil at this point for an individual. I mean it gives computing power to stanford university (or somewhere that is involved with this) but what does that accomplish, cancer research or something, from my knowledge the best research in genetic fields are a result of biological trials (lab rat trials for example) not simulations.

What even is folding. I never looked into it

 

 

What is folding? Folding is a worldwide distributed computing effort conducted by Stanford University to understand how proteins assemble themselves. The real world applications of this research includes potential cures for diseases such as Alzheimer's, cancer, and Parkinson's. Nearly everyone's life has been touched by someone who has had one of these diseases or one of the many other diseases this research is aiming to cure.

 

Why should I fold? What's in it for me? Just the knowledge that you're contributing to a very good cause. We do this because we can, because we have the computing power to offer. From a purely fun perspective, as you fold you are awarded points. These points help generate some competition and fun between members and other teams.

 

I don't a high powered folding gear. Is it worth it?Absolutely! All to often you will see one of the regulars answering this questions with a "EVERY little bit helps". With the various client types, pretty much any system can help to contribute to the cause.

 

What does it cost? The software is free, and there are no fees of any kind for participating in folding. If you fold 24/7 and/or have several computers folding, you will likely notice a increase in your electric bill.

Oh so it's like for protein research for antigen production for say HIV as an example

I might see about dedicating my PC to folding over the month of December, my G751 should be enough computer power to take care of me, so I could live a little while without my desktop.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

I am up to it. Have to wait till I finish my build at the end of the month (waiting on new motherboard, its back ordered).

Well, planning to use my 4p machine as a remote server. it has been out of commission for a while,

but i ordered a packet of ethernet couplers/extenders as my "access point" router hasn't been

cooperating at all.. it won't add much, but i can get it up and running again by December. 

 

And yeah, i think it's cool you are doing this every year, can become a nice tradition if it sticks  ^_^

I'm gonna try it but i'm only running an R9 280X with an AMD FX-8350 so idk what it will do.
