Rainbow Six Siege beta review

SImoHayha

Hello since getting my hands on the beta finally. I decided to do a review.

Sections: Gameplay, Postives, Negatives

 ===Gameplay===

You play as operatives from around the world. Each operative has a unique ability or piece of equipment. However at first your only allowed to play as a recruit which might sound kinda crappy, however is actually pretty powerful. Recruit class is like the jack of all trades, of each operative, unlike operatives Recruits can select between two pieces of equipment of the attacker and defender,such as smoke or breach charge, flashbang or grenade, also Recruits can can shift between each operative's nationalities which allows them to choose different weapons perspective of their nation, such as a German assault rifles, Russian Pistols etc. Operatives also are limited to either the defender role or attacker role, meaning a attacker can't be a defender and vice versa.

In order to play as operatives you need to play either terrorist hunt or multiplayer. This gives you in-game currency called renown tickets. These allow you to purchase different operatives. Each nation's operatives differ from each other as you might think, each single character from a nation costs 500 renown tickets, then when you want to purchase another operative from the same nation it increases by 500 renown tickets and again. Each nation's operative has various differences in armor and speed as well, heavy armor increases your ability to survive against bullet but slows you down, light armor provides some protection but expect to die very easily, however you can walk and sprint faster.

Gameplay feels very stiff, not as fluid as it might seem to be, well at least to me. It feels like am running like a slug and aiming like speedy gonzales. Even with "fast" characters it stills feels very slow. Not to mention that there isn't a tutorial given when you first start the beta meaning you have to try and remember keyboard controls really fast or play with a controller, mouse speed is crazy fast and speedy as usual, but it can be confusing, as you can try running away from a enemy and turn a corner but you immediately take a sharp turn into the nearby wall, something that am not used to as I usually get stuck not moving and just go around in small circles then die.

Aiming in this game is extremely slow. I thought my friend was kidding when he said it was slow. Let me tell ya cod's ADS for assault rifles are faster these  " special operatives " feels like they're taking their time to really aim, which I can understand somewhat as they might just want you to walk indoors or outside while constantly being in ADS, but that isn't always the case at times because I need to run away then someone pops up and it takes forever to aim and try to kill them.  Hipfire is ungodly horrible, it differs from weapon to weapon assault rifles being the absolute worst when it comes to hipfire, the goddamn crosshairs extend to the entire screen making it nearly impossible to hit people even up close and in the face, felt like I was a goddamn stormtrooper just shooting bloody blanks.  Shotguns/Pistols/SMG's are the best to hipfire with, also with a decrease in ADS speed. Personally I like pistols because they offer the fastest ADS speed out of any other weapon which make's it easy to run and aim if you do run into anyone.

Terrorist hunt is well terrorist hunt. Play with five fellow comrades and kill a number of enemies which are limited to a max of 30. Terrorist hunt is different this time around, terrorist will set up booby traps ( places filled with barbed wire or c4 which explodes when you go into the room) There is a one difference compared to Vega's terrorist hunt suicide bombers. These guys glow like a Christmas tree and breath like they have smoker's lung, beware these guy's only way to kill them is pump them full of lead which takes forever, or kill them with a head shot.

Anyway yea thats the end of gameplay.

==Positives==

A positive thing is that matchmaking is rather easy and fast. I usually got a match within 20-30 seconds no more then a minute though if stuff gets funky.

Weapons are diverse, each gun being different compared to another, some shotguns have better range then others, and with easier aiming sights.

The abilities if each Operative are unique and different from one another, one operative with a riot shield can have a flashbang on it, while another has a extender on it allowing to stand without the fear of getting clipped in the feet.

Finding people to chat with isn't that hard just ask and most people will talk back.

No server issues what so ever, no drops from games or being kicked. However I would like some dedicated servers, as this relies on P2P meaning people get selected as a Host which can screw over everyone sometimes.

==Negatives==

Goddamn lets go into the negatives. This game is kinda broken to be honest. First off is the health system which is basically, seems to be confusing, you would think you would have regenerative health but nope, basically it's Syphon Filter health. Meaning once that armor goes down you have no chance what so ever and die. I was expecting the armor to protect you from some extent and reducing damage from your " True health" and depending on the armor your operative had it would protect more of your "True health"  If you don't get it it's basically like this. 100 % Armor and 100% Health. Lets say you get nicked by a shotgun the armor goes down to 63% and your health goes down to 84%. However the armor and health are both tied together in this game so there isn't much a point in trying to hide and recover as your armor never regenerates.

The operative selection is somewhat limiting. You can ONLY have one operative per person, which I can get it wants you to experiment with others but if everyone likes the same character and keeps using them and they manage to select it over and over again, then you can't choose the new character you bought. I would like this to be removed at least in terrorist hunt, as it really doesn't do much in terrorist hunt, in MP i can totally see, it would be really unfair if the entire team was an operative that had flash bang riot shield.

So far the variety of gameplay isn't that much. Just basically protect the objective and TDM, along with killing some terrorists, I haven't seen anything so far like protecting the hostage, you would expect Ubisoft to put that in since they made a fancy trailer/gameplay with it.  I want something more like Hardcore mode where you can't chat with your team and going in blind meaning no one knows anything no drones or anything.

Also I want better maps. I would enjoy some maps being in complete darkness, like the house one. If you manage to destroy the power it turns off all the lights in the house and you got to use flashlights to find each other, which would create some crazy and chaotic battles.

The equipment system can do a bit of tweaking, I didn't even know there was a bloody weapon customization system, the game just doesn't mention it. I also dislike how there isn't a whole lot of lethal and tactical gadgets/bombs, I would want some Incendiary grenades, flares, short fused grenades, semtex, claymores, sensor detectors, toss able c4, modded snake drones which can explode in smoke to confuse enemies or explode into a flashbang

also SUICIDE BOMBERS IN Terrorist hunt mode. Are the worst. These bastards pop out of no where, they do have warning signs however they are very vague in direction meaning while it sounds right next to you they'll be upstairs. Also the only way to kill them is either a headshot or panic and shoot at the vest and hopefully they go down, however the only negative part about pumping them with lead is you might accidentally set off the bombs he's strapped with not to mention the bastard is wearing heavy armor, which doesn't make any sense, no point in wearing armor if your going to kill yourself.  I died three goddamn times because they popped out of no where and blew themselves up which got annoying really quick.

anywho yea. What's your experience ?

I didn't like it.

Then again, didn't exactly play a lot of it.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

There needs to be a ton of stuff fixed/added. I wont be buying until i see reviews and such.

I need a server browser, let me choose to start a new match as host, nerf pistols, and let me customize ops between matches and I'll be mostly happy, then just fix all the janky stuff.

i dont know about you but i quite enjoy terrorist hunt co-op with my friends. sure the bombers are a pain, but its funny to turn a corner and blow up. i laugh my friends laugh we have a good time. also the directional warnings you hear is pretty obvious where he is coming from. and dont forget the blue light.
theres quite a lot to be improved about the game. IMO the health thing is pretty ok. but they could make it so that at least theres some way to regenerate your armor. possibly a drop that you pick up or something along those lines to restore small bits of armor. in realistic mode you pretty much die if you dont shoot the enemy first anyway so not that big a deal.

From what i know there should be quite a bit more modes during the release. theres supposed to be 4 ai modes already. terrorist hunt is just one.

overall as a beta i give it a 7/10

I had a good time with the game.

I'll give you my take on the negatives since it will be easier to keep a conversation going if I address your points than bringing up ones of my own.

==Negatives==

Goddamn lets go into the negatives. This game is kinda broken to be honest. First off is the health system which is basically, seems to be confusing, you would think you would have regenerative health but nope, basically it's Syphon Filter health. Meaning once that armor goes down you have no chance what so ever and die. However the armor and health are both tied together in this game so there isn't much a point in trying to hide and recover as your armor never regenerates.

This to me isn't a problem, nothing tactical about camping a corner when you are wounded for your health to magically regenerate.
Was armour a bad icon to have chosen to represent health maybe, although rather than percentage based I think it should be a fixed number. The thing I hate about armour in games is how unnecessary it feels at times. For example the heavy armoured operatives start with 100 as well. I am unsure exactly what the benefit is. I'm assuming it is to do with it requiring more body shots to actually hurt me but I've no idea.

If you a proposing something similar to counter strike where you have two fixed values armour and health I would support that, but regen health mechanics make the game too forgiving. Nothing beats those clutch moments when you are on 11 health only to win a 3v1.

The operative selection is somewhat limiting. You can ONLY have one operative per person, which I can get it wants you to experiment with others but if everyone likes the same character and keeps using them and they manage to select it over and over again, then you can't choose the new character you bought. This is one of those things I agree with, I never really liked class based multiplayer but I understand why they implemented it, each class has some rather op toys but it is actually ok because it is locked to one team member. To be honest I don't see why terrorist hunt doesn't just allow you to fully customise a rookie with whatever tools are available in the game. Recently me and friend went back to Vegas 1 and the shits and giggles were had just using stupid weapon combos to challenge ourselves.

Beta * I do hope we get more game modes in the full game.

Also I want better maps. I would enjoy some maps being in complete darkness, like the house one. If you manage to destroy the power it turns off all the lights in the house and you got to use flashlights to find each other, which would create some crazy and chaotic battles.

Was this a thing never noticed it , I do agree though or even some maps involving a fusion of night and day. I'm thinking RSV2 Streets at night or Calypso Casino Rooftop fighting into a brightly lit casino

Agreed 100% it took far too long for me to realise I could customise weapons , I still haven't figured out if I have a laser or silencer toggle.

also SUICIDE BOMBERS IN Terrorist hunt mode.

This was always funny to me, and explains why you should use the little drones before hand to scout the map. Want a perfect score don't go in blind.

One quick note to break my own rule here but um ubisoft dedicated servers please, it isn't much to ask for.
