Network Segment 10.x.0.0/20 where x stands for a computer's sequential number.

first and last usable ip + broadcast + first 200 usable ip?

10.0.0.0/20 would be 

10.0.0.1 - 10.0.15.254

10.0.15.255

10.0.0.1-10.0.0.200

 

I'm really confused about the x being where it is.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ya that subnet mask looks wrong. A /20 indicates that the 3rd octet is the one that is important here, not the second. Maybe it is just a type-o where you found the information? 10.0.X.0 would make sense. The rest of that information looks correct however.

 

Also just noticed that the first line makes almost no sense. "Where X stands for the computer number"? You wouldn't give a single computer an entire /20 subnet, this makes no sense. I really don't get what they are asking here. If they are implying we are using the second octet to denote different subnets, then why is it even using a /20? it's wasting the 4 most significant bits in the 3rd octet doing this. Why not just use a /16 if you're going to waste the bits anyway?

 

I am very confused. The more I think about it the less sense this question makes!

your assignment is fucked up :D noone in the real world would assign a /20 subnet to each computer on a network..

I'm a bit confused with the question, you want to assign a /20 block to each device? This will make each device on their own separate network and is extremely inefficient.
