A time to buy - Broadwell and Pascal.

Greenfeuer

Hey people!

Well I was wondering if I should go on with my purchase or wait for Broadwell and Pascal, to come out.

I played the waiting game for a long time and currently running a xfx 280, and only 3,5 of my ram works. I can't remember my cpu but its back from 2008ish Quad core. Its toaster.

Going big and got a sweet deal with 5% off on all hardware. Going with Rampage Extreme V - 5960x - 980 ti sli.

But is it shooting myself in the foot buying now?

Broadwell already came out months ago, but it was a half-assed launch and barely any CPU's actually made it to market.

With the hardware you mentioned like the 5960x and the 980's in SLI that's more than enough to run games In high-Ultra settings, most likely even in 4k, but in 1080p you'd be set for a few years with that build :P

We are already on Skylake...

Haswell -> Broadwell -> Skylake

Broadwell isn't worth it and Skylake isn't much of an improvement over Haswell. Apart from that you can also just buy a 5820k for the price of an 6700k Skylake CPU.

If you actually have the money for a 5960X, then go ahead and get one of those. Just keep in mind that it is an insane overkill just for playing games.

Wait because NVidia may have a dual chip card on its way

Very bad idea after we've seen what happened to the Titan Z.

Wait Pascal since the Roadmap said its 2016

Yeah, probably at the end of 2016 and it might get delayed to early 2017 if something goes wrong. That's the first time that NVidia has to work with HBM

Whats the worst that can happen, Two Titan X's in SLI? 980TI's in SLI?

It's been said its not a whole new chip. Its one of the two.

I don't get it, you're running a 2008 cpu and want to jump to the 5960x.... you don't need that cpu and if you're running a single 1080p you don't need 980ti sli.

The worst thing that can happen is that it is priced the same as the Titan Z was at launch. So 3000$ for two TitanX or maybe 1500$-2000$ for two 980Ti.

The Titan Z did cost 3000$ at launch.

10 FPS for $100 is pretty worthwhile if you ask me.. That is a pretty good improvement. I'd gladly accept that extra cost.

Tomorrow the Walking Dead could be real.

In a world where the waiting game is now about food cans and soda bottles. One gaming machine, one massive rig, won't matter!

Cause this is " Fear the walking dead with a gaming rig that is obsolete!" Coming to you before Pascal can release.

Guys - you're forgetting - the next intel release leaked was BroadWell-E :)

As for Pascal - Q3 2016 is the earliest date I've heard thus far. Could be after that if a delay occurs
