Windforce GTX 960 vs. MSI R9 380

Go to solution Solved by don_svetlio,

R9 380 4G - no competition really
Radeon-R9-380-Series-Performance-635x732

I'm in the GPU thread. Other people have asked the same type of question I'm about to ask. Here goes nothing.

I'm building a bidget PC. My dad generously offered that he'll pay for the parts, only if all of them add up to a $1000 or less. I got a liist of parts that I want for the system build, pretty decent parts actually. Compatibility checks out through all the components. Now I have around $300 to spend on a graphics card.

Windforce GTX 960 vs. MSI R9 380.

These are options that I have. I've made my research on the price of each GPU and it fits perfectly into the budget. But me being a mediocre computer geek, I don't know much about GPUs, even though I know plenty about other PC parts.

I don't have an nvidia sheild so neither card weighs on any side at the moment.

So if anyone would be kind enough to tell me with what I should go with, that'd be great.

A definite answer and then a breakdown on why that particular card.

Thanks.

380. hands down. no questions. nada. nothing. done.

380 performs way better than the 960 for pretty much the same price. it's a no-brainer. only downsides are a bit more power draw and more heat.

10W - like a light bulb :D

970? You can get a 970 for $300 so I would go with that if your main objective is to game.

it only gets better at lower resolution. I guess this - the 285 is a slower 380 Don't get Asus btw - crappy AMD cards (i own one T_T)

What do you mean by not going with an ASUS card? Well I'm still going with the MSI one.. It looks way fancier than ASUS. And there is more fan area so I'm guessing so much better temps than that of ASUS

Don't get that one. People complain that it won't let their PC shutdown and it has terrible temps and stuff. I mean, who puts a two fan cooler on a hot running card and then a 3 fan cooler on a cooler running card?
