I need a bluray player that just works.

Riddler356

As the title says i need a blu ray player that just works, i shall explain the only things i need.

I only need it to play unlocked/region A blurays, Region 1 DVDs.

1080p blurays, i do not need 4k, and have no intention of upgrading to 4k until the cost of a 4k tv is sub $300 for 55"+.

I do not need any internet connectivity due to my rasberry pi 2 handling that side more than enough, and my wii-u handling streaming sites perfectly.

I need a bluray since a ps3/ps4/xbone is to complicated for my grandparents to understand, they can barely comprehend a 2003 dvd player.

After looking on this site, arstechnica, teksyndicate, and random other forums and reviews every single one reccomended either have one issue or another, or is expensive as all hell. i don't care if it is $200 as long as it fits the descriptions above, and will work with no issue and will continue to work for years down the road like my 15 year old dvd player, 40 year old vcr, and 23 year old crt tv (not the one that the blu ray is for, it is purely for nostalgia with my n64).

P.S Let me emphasize i do not need smart features, if two players work equally well with the above requirements and one is cheaper (even by $5) because of no smart features, i will prefer the non smart one.

Thanks in advanced for any and all help.

Nothing to see here, move along

As far as I have seen a lot of threads about this in other forums, I think that most likely no player in that pricing range fits your demands. Almost every device you buy nowadays (be it a TV (your TVs seem to be pricy pieces if crap with horrible picture and sound. Good 4K TV with 55" below 300$ my ass [emoji1]. You can't even get good 720-1080p TVs in that pricing range), be it a Receiver, be it a DVD player. Everything is smart.)

I heard good things about OPPO-players (should be durable, performs very well, but also has a lot of functionality). Either they adapt to the smartness of everything today and are able to pay more money, or you get a very old player from eBay. For that case, I see no other option.

the model number is to faded to read on this tv, but after tweaking the settings the 55" RCA tv has great colors, great images in multiple lightings (in show and real life), at 1080p, its cost new 2 years ago was $250. Idk much about colors and stuff but a friend of the family who is a professional photographer helped with testing and tweaking using my pc in my sig, with her

Dell ultrasharp U3011 as a control.

that is simple with our tv, where you just press source until it says dvd (changed input name) they can understand that, but my problem is that most reviews i see are saying to get the $500+ smart ones, playstations, or having excessive returns due to DOAs/defectives.

sony and lg bluray drives are pretty good

even the 100$ ones

long as your grandparents aren;t rough with the tray...you could get a trayless one to I guess

I have had several, but my favorite has to be a Sony.  When I say that, its the interface and speed I like, not the picture, cuz yeah, the picture is good anyway.
