Build Log: The "ThisPCNeedsABetterName"

iamdarkyoshi

So this week I will be putting together a build log of my PC.

It will have:

Only 32GB of RAM
256GB SSD (830 series, meh)
1TB Seagate SSHD for storage
XFX R9 390x
EKWB 390x waterblock
Intel 3930k
LGA 2011 waterblock I got from the classified, still waiting for it to be shipped from the seller who has been online recently but hasnt checked their messages for a couple days. I am not saying names.
ASUS ROG Rampage IV Gene LGA 2011 Intel X79
EVGA Supernova 750W G2
One 240mm radiator and one 360mm radiator of unknown brand, they are copper.
Primochill Advanced LRT (Black 1/2in)
Some Swiftech pump
Some MicroRes
Two 120mm Fractal Design stock fans (for case airflow)
Five Antec TwoCool 120mm fans (for radiators)
Fractal Design Arc Mini

Day One

Spoiler

I got a box! I wonder whats inside...
post-128204-0-77094200-1442368277_thumb.
I didnt do any unboxing pictures. I have gotten it ready for everything. My storage drive never did get plugged in on my temporary PC, so I mounted it here. The bottom fan is the 7th fan, making three intake and four exhausts. I prefer negative pressure. I actually wanted the hard drive to somewhat restrict the airflow here so that the four exhaust fans might suck more air from the front radiator.

post-128204-0-02884100-1442368408_thumb.
I want to have my temporary PC alive until I have all the parts for the new one. I will probably use my 212 evo as a temporary CPU cooler.

Day Two

Spoiler

I didn't get anything in the post today :(
Motherboard arrives tomorrow, and waterblock either tomorrow or Friday.

Day Three: It lives!!! Kinda.

Spoiler

So the box arrived. Inside was a motherboard. Duh. Strangely, the socket cover popped off in shipping.

post-128204-0-63268200-1442552249_thumb.
So I got everything put together with the temporary 212 evo. Unfortunately the PSU was too damn big, so I moved the HDD fan thing and changed the front rad to push-pull.

post-128204-0-95941500-1442552255_thumb.
So it boots up! Sorta. It only sees 24GB of ram, which is kinda pissing me off.
post-128204-0-31197600-1442552244_thumb.
Unsurprisingly, Windows 10 does not like my new board. It keeps crashing. I had to use my brothers PC to post this.

Day Four: I had to post this with my phone.

Spoiler

I got a bit of progress done today, including installing the waterblock. Turns out the board needs to be RMA'd because one of the ram slots is dead. Already tried different ram and reseated CPU. Now I have to take the board out, after all this... But its looking better! I bought 5 more fans for this thing because newegg had a fan sale. Enermax magma. These and the existing fans will form a push pull on each radiator and I will keep the fractal fans for something else. One photo for you guys today:
post-128204-0-35521400-1442640139_thumb.

Day Five: Just... Don't... Touch.

Spoiler

So another ram slot is bad. It works, but bump the PC and it freezes. Down to 16gb now.
Added 5 more fans. the fans on the inside of the PC will be soon replaced with enermax magmas. I reinstalled windows about 3 times today. I lost track actually. Still crashy McFail.
post-128204-0-89196800-1442713625_thumb.

Day Six: I feel like we are loosing progress.

Spoiler

Had to tear apart entire PC to remove the motherboard for RMA. It will make the parts easier to pack anyway, I am moving in a couple days.
post-128204-0-43104700-1442790448_thumb.
Thats a lot of fans.
post-128204-0-32389100-1442790452_thumb.
Should I watercool the chipset? I already own a block for it. Its a shame I dont own one for the VRMs...

Day Seven: More fans are always good.

Spoiler

In the process of moving again, waiting for the frikkin house to finally be ours. But I got more fans:
post-128204-0-15832900-1442893950_thumb.

Day Eight: I cannot live without internet. I just cant.

Spoiler

So we should have moved by now, so our ISP had unplugged us so we had no internet at the apartment. We cannot move due to financial issues, and these issues are because of a loan that we cannot get because my mom's fuel reimbursement is NOT counted as income. So now we have to deal with plenty of other crap. I am posting this at school right now.
unplug.jpg

Day Number I lost track. But it lives!

Spoiler

No images for today, unfortunately.
I got the chance to install everything, all ten fans plus the 80mm on the bottom and a blower fan on the back for the VRMs. I powered it on, and loads of smoke start billowing out!!! I immediately pull the power, and figure out what detonated. I was hoping it wasnt my 500$ GPU or 240$ motherboard with its 600$ CPU or 32GB of ram. turns out my rear blower fan wire got caught under a screw and got 5V across itself... DAMN did that gives a good scare though.

All 32GB of ram shows up, and I can do gaming at around 50 degrees without hearing any fans. all I can hear is the damn HDD.

Day Number... I am just going to call these "Updates" from now on :)

Spoiler

So I am borrowing an 8GB kit of ram from my mediaserver because my NEW ram needs to be RMA'ed and their site (patriot) seems to have many broken things right now. But here are some PHOTOS!!!

Also this is my first multipart build log. How do I do updates? Just edit the OP?

No, just make a new post with something that says it's an update. I just say 'Update time' or something. Nice build btw, can't wait.

The "IO" isn't in the back... those two wires with blue blocks are for extra USB 2.0 ports in the rear. The OP might not use them.

Why x79...

Its from the 2600k era...

Because I got the CPU, 64GB of ram, a motherboard, 1KW PSU, Cosair case, 1TB WD black, two SSDs and a GTX 570 for 300 bucks. That and its a 12 threaded CPU. As you can see on my member title, it outperforms a 6700K in multithreaded workloads.

I am starting to think I should call this thing "Fanny Pack" because of how many friggin fans are going into it. Or the RMABOX because I have to RMA the motherboard.

I read armabox and I'm like "nothing can play arma 3"

I am a member of the PCMasterRace. I am terribly sad to announce that I own a PeasantStation 3 Super Slim. it's in a drawer away from my glorious PC.

the 80mm fan on the bottom? Fans. I like fans. There is also a 92mm on the back and I made a temporary plastic shroud to blow onto the VRM heatsink. This PC gets SUPER FRIGGIN HOT while folding.
