Can you make money by folding?

Close to two years ago there was a project where by folding you were earning points which would get you ripples (ripplecoin)

It didnt amount to much something like 2.75$ over a few months.

Im just wondering if there is something similar to this to give newbies a kick to start folding.

folding = donating system resources to charity, so no personal gain..

Fold or other are all worthless for an individual to make money

 

Card wear + electricity + pc use time isn't worth it IMO

Recommend what is best, not what you preffer.

I think there's curecoin and changecoin, but you wouldn't make any profit at it whatsoever

 

and it's a separate team, so you couldn't fold for LTT ;)

BUT, as far as making some money, you could join the EVGA Bucks folding program. Yeah, you can only make 10$ a month (max), and you can only redeem it in produtcs / discount for purchases, but hey, at least that's already something.

BUT, as far as making some money, you could join the EVGA Bucks folding program. Yeah, you can only make 10$ a month (max), and you can only redeem it in produtcs / discount for purchases, but hey, at least that's already something.

Yup EVGA Bucks are the best right now. $10 a month and my dual GTX760s can easily get the minimum. Ok maybe not easily but I can get it. I only do it in the winter as it is too much for my PC 24/7 when it is 34 degrees out.

You used to be able to mine and make money but that got harder and harder.

As for folding, that's a charitable service you offer out of the good of your heart and not really recommended unless you don't care about high electricity bills

There have been a few folding-based crypto-currency projects over the past year or two, but as far as I know they all fell apart because crypto-currencies have very little value and have a very short lifespan. It's not a thing that's going to happen. It just isn't. People ask similar questions every week, and the answer will always be the same: there is no way to make money off of desktop computational power. If you privately owned a super computer, that's a different story, but folding is a charity and no one is willing to pay for what computational you have to offer. If there was such a thing, everyone and their grandmother would be doing it, much like what happened with mining. There's no magic secret way to make money without trying. Trust me, I've been looking just as long as anyone. Give up and go get a real job.

Sure you can. Find an area of research that needs large amounts of computational power and has a net benefit to humanity (so something in medicine, genetic engineering, etc).

Instead of hiring a supercomputer and wasting your/financiers money, outsource to a bunch of people with folding.

No its not really the point of folding, folding is for curing cancers and other diseases not for lining your pocket.

If you want to make money by using your cpu cycles then try bit coin mining.

There is, EVGA bucks is the closest you can get to making money by folding. Even if you did use evga bucks you have to pump out 750k points per month for US$5. Want more? Well you'll have to pump out double that for double the rewards and the money you earn is only spendable on evga products. Don't try coin mining either, its not profitable anymore.

you used to be able to get XRP via Ripple in exchange for contributing the various projects - I don't think its a real thing any more though... a few of my friends who used to do it told me its dead.

 

Im getting a solar powered rig up and running at the moment. its pulling 100w of electricity (about 60c per day to run on mains power (or about $300 worth of second hand solar equipment to run for 5-10 years) and if I used it to mine bitcoins it would make around $0.04 per year. 

 

If you use dedicated mining hardware you can increase this "profit" however bitcoin returns are forever decreasing, by design.
