Desktop not showing up, but i can open task manager

I can open task manager, i'm on windows 8, the desktop is not showing up, the start menu not showing up, but i opened task manager and can run apps from it. Anyone have any idea what happened? It's on a lenovo ideapad Flex 14

try to run explorer.exe

if that fails get into safe mode and reinstall windows.
