Can't click on anything in start and bottom right tool-bar (Windows 10)

Go to solution Solved by Albatross,

Ctrl, Shift & ESC, I find is the easiest way to open Taskmgr

That seems so out of the way. Why not Ctrl +Alt + Del?

Still, hopefully all the ways I provided will help OP get to the task manager regardless. :)

EDIT

I had already tried ending explorer.exe and recreating it, and I already have access to my start menu button its just that after I open it when I click on any of the tiles or icons nothing happens. In the second half of your solution what do you mean by "switch" and "power"?

Okay, can you try this in a command prompt?

sfc /scannow

Reboot still if it claims nothing was found to be fixed and then:

regsvr32 /i shell32.dll

And what I mean by "switch" is the power switch on the back of your PSU, so that you can switch it off so that pressing the power button on the PC doesn't turn the computer on.

Hey guys, yesterday I tried to shut down my computer, but after I entered the start menu, I could not click on anything. I later find out that I also cannot alter anything in my lower right toolbar (e.g. I enter my action center, but I can't click on anything in it). I tried using a different mouse, running anti-virus, and contacting microsoft live support chat to no avail. The support personnel basically said that this is a major issue that they can only further investigate by having me purchase some "premium support plan" for $99. If anyone could offer me any help at all with my predicament I would greatly appreciate it.

I had the same problem! This is what I did and hopefully it can help you:

Press the Window key on your board and R at the same time. Type in "task manager" and look for the explorer (or do a manual search for it or run cmd with taskmgr.exe or use the shortcut to bring up task manager). End the process and then make a new process pointing toward the explorer. After a moment or two, the process should begin and you should have the ability to click the start button in some limited capacity. Turn off the computer, flip switch and hold power for thirty seconds, reboot and see if it is back to normal.

I learned to do this with the preview builds (which were worse than steam early access).

edit

I also turned off hibernation and sleep modes to prevent it from happening again, just in case. So far, so good!

Thank you so much for the help, I was starting to get really worried. Also, could you explain why I would need to turn off sleep/hibernate?

No problem, but the thanks should come only if the help works. :)

Some people, included myself, found that disabling it prevented the issues from reoccurring.

Pressing 3 keys to open Taskmgr and only Taskmgr!

It beats Ctrl, Alt & Delete.

By the way, if the scannow command reports problems, you may need a burned dvd of Win10 to fix the problem, OP.

Yea, but that combination seems so out of the way. I couldn't see myself quickly using that shortcut when ctrl + alt can be reached by my left hand swiftly (pinky and thumb), and then the del key with my right pinky. I'd have to stop and switch both hands to the left to use ctrl + alt + esc. Might be that's because I have small hands, but whatever.

EDIT

Wow, I completely missed it. The commands fixed the problem? Cool! :)
