W7 32bit to W10 64bit?

WereCat

Hi. Friend brought me his old prebuild PC and I noticed it has only 32bit W7 while he has 4GB of RAM.

Is it possible to upgrade it to 64bit W10 or am I supposed to visit bay?

If the processor supports 64bit you can upgrade to Win10, but it will probably install the 32bit version because that's what's on there now. Afterwards you can format the PC and do a fresh install of the 64bit Win10.

Make sure the processor supports 64bit first. The amount of RAM isn't really an indication, you'll need to google the CPU specs to make sure.

You cant upgrade from a 32bit version to a 64bit one.

Also make sure that the cpu supports 64bit.

CPU: i5 6600k OCed to 4.5Ghz @ 1.35v, GPU: R9 390 Nitro, Motherboard: Asus z170-A, CPU Cooler: H100i GTX, RAM: HyperX 2x8 16gb DDR4, PSU: Seasonic x650, Storage: 850 EVO 500gb, WD 1tb blue, Case: H440 White/Black

You cannot upgrade from 32 bit to 64 bit.

You should perform clean Installation of Windows 7 64 bit and Upgrade to Windows 10 64 bit.

Intel Core i3 2100 @ 3.10GHz - Intel Stock Cooler - Zotac Geforce GT 610 2GB Synergy Edition

Intel DH61WW - Corsair® Value Select 4GBx1 DDR3 1600 MHz - Antec BP-300P PSU

WD Green 1TB - Seagate 2.5" HDD 1TB - Seagate Barracuda 500GB - Antec X1 E.

Thanks. I will give it a try. The CPU is Core 2 Duo E7500 so it should be x64.

Actually, @kameshss may be right and I may have it the wrong way around. With Win10's activation system being the way it is, I wouldn't be surprised if the better option is to install Win7 64bit first, then upgrade to Win10.

Do it that way, better to be safe than having to re-install it all over again.

Grab a Win7 64bit ISO, install and activate it (really, activating it is important), then upgrade to Win10
