r7 360 on a pcie 2.0 x16?

SpyingAround
Go to solution Solved by Godlygamer23,

PCIe is forwards and backwards compatible with all generations. So yes, you can put an R7 360 into a PCIe 2.0 x16 slot.

is that possible?

Im planning on building a pc for a Kali linux system. Only for looking at youtube videos or some series. Is it possible to run r7 360 on a mobo which only supports PCIe 2.0 x16 ( x4-modus )

The build:

Processor: AMD Athlon 5350, Socket-AM1

Mobo: ASUS AM1M-A, Socket-AM1

GPU: ASUS Radeon R7 360 2GB OC DC2

HDD: Seagate Barracuda® 1TB

Case: Fractal Design Core 1100 Micro Tower

Ram: Crucial DDR3 BallistiX Sport 1600MHz 8GB

PSU: Corsair CX 430W PSU

so is it possible to run a r7 360 with is pcie 3.0 x16 on a mobo with support of 2.0 x16??

Thanks

pcie is backwards compatible. A gpu with pcie gen 3 can fit in any pcie slot.

So it wont like loose performance or anything O.o

In 4x mode a little bit in some scenarios, but not a lot.

Thank you man :)

Not on that card. You should be fine with PCIe 2.0 x16.

That'll be fine as well.

sorry to bring bad news for you

AM1 only have pcie 3.0 x4, which is equivalent pcie 2.0 x8

I don't know why you pick AM1 if you going to add GPU on it.

there are other cheaper if not better solution for your needs.

not in denmark? price or availability?

even older celeron/pentium would give you better results.

and if you meant about price, those hardware that you pick considerably expensive for the performance which you would never get anyway. (or you expecting to be)

that CPU will bottleneck GPU, and considering you will not using windows either, that CPU is the weakest link among of all.

again, I don't know why you need add-on GPU because the system you pick and the OS you will use won't or can't use maximum potential of that card.

Oh yea, sry man my bad. I'm planning on using the 360 for a build later on. And the prices in Denmark is high, and avaibility low.
