Yeah, pretty much. You can get an air cooler for the same price that will perform better and be quieter.

You can get Noctua's NH D15.

It's real good ! :)

KING OF AIR COOLER imo.

I don't mind sacrificing 2C for quieter performance but NH D15 is pretty ugly

Actually they are about the same.

Here's a comparison from anandtech of some high end air coolers.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/9415/top-tier-cpu-air-coolers-9way-roundup-review/12

hitechlegion did a review and it won by 2c, 2c for me is better and in the uk its £15 cheaper and looks better.

Get it. It is worth it. Always use a good cooler especially if you are going to overclock.

I was thinking of the Shadow rock 2? But is it too big, and if i do choose the r1 ultimate or the dark rock 3, is it worth paying extra for my mid end build?

The Macho is the better cooler. It also shouldn't have any clearance issues. Are you going to overclock? If you're only doing some mild stuff you could go with a Pure Rock.

Nope. Really you don't need to overclock unless you're playing super CPU bound games. You could just save some cash and get a 4590.
