Troubleshoot FPS issues on Lenovo laptop.

Hey guys,

I recently picked up a Y40-80 Laptop, Model # 80FA0018US  for general use and light gaming on the road. Specs are below:

  • 5th Generation Intel Core i7-5500U Processor (2.40GHz 1600MHz 4MB)
  • Windows 8.1 64
  • 14.0" FHD LED AntiGlare (1920x1080)
  • AMD Radeon R9 M275 4GB
  • 8.0GB PC3-12800 DDR3L 1600 MHz
  • 512GB SSD SATA III

I've been having issues with FPS on games I thought I would be able fairly smoothly. The issue is most noticeable in Pillars of Eternity. I went in to the AMD Catalyst Drivers and took off the restrictions to the discrete card, but I'm still barely hitting 30 FPS. Am I wrong in thinking this set-up would handle PoE fairly easily? In a game like Civ V everything seems to run fine. CPU-Z shows one core heating up to an astronomical amount, which tells me the sensor may be broken, and this could cause unnecessary thermal throttling in the CPU.

Any ideas here? Any help would be appreciated.

Try turning down the graphical settings if there are any.
