Looking for a good older 24-48 port managed gigabit switch

Kranitz

I'm slowly adding more machines to my rack, and I am looking for a managed switch with a large number of ports so I can try out link aggregation, since most of my machines have a least two gigabit Ethernet ports and support it. I don't need anything fancy, this will just be going in my garage, so any older hardware suggestions and recommendations are welcome!

What's your budget? Do you want a smart switch or a full managed switch. With managed switches they are usually "managed" via CLI (command line interface) and are alot harder to manage and configure than smart switches that use a web based GUI.

my budget is up to 700$ or so, but I'd rather spend around 200$, and I'd rather have something with a web GUI, much like my router. I've been looking at the Linksys/Cisco SRW2048 on ebay, since it is in the same family and age range as my 24 port dumb switch, and that has been banging away for like 10 years without any hiccups.

I bought a new tp-link switch from my local Microcenter. The smart ones have 4 SFP ports and a very easy to use web-ui. I bought a 24 port one for 180 bucks new.

Ah, the 52 port D-link looks like more than I need, but I think I'll go for it, thanks!

Cisco would be my suggestion. They can do pretty much anything.

Gigabit switch on the cheap, probably a Catalyst 2690G (24port). You can find them on eBay as low as $150. Something more advanced Catalyst 4948(49port) that's a Layer 3 switch so you can do some routing as well.

The used catalyst switches on ebay are usually nearing the end of their life. Lots don't even have a usable webui.

Have you looked at the HP 1810/1910 series? They can do exactly what you want and HP has a great warranty on them (lifetime), plus, great customer support.

Yeah do not buy used Catalyst switches - you can almost always just get some of them for free as they have been in deployment for several years when they are changed (ususally) and are therefore not considered stable enough for enterprise usage anymore.
