Hi, I'm Dalton and I love material design.

DaltonM

I have been making widgets for over a year now, and I share them all the time on other places, but I guess I can share them too! I would like to give you all a sample of my work. I am obsessed with making my widgets not only beautiful, but functional and informative. I work on custom designs for interfaces too! I would LOVE to make the menus in a videogame lol.

Here is an interface and widget I made for my Moto X 2013. I used Zooper widget pro I often collate my apps by the categories Work, Social, and Media. This is one of my earlier works. These two show off my calendar and weather widgets.

Here is a minimal design for my Note 4, I got bored with color.

Here's a header widget I created for my Moto X, its got a pop out media section, you can see where it say's 'Kurt Travis'

You can see the (empty) bar on the right would denote the current temp in realation to the min and max for the day, the right bar is battery and all buttons are functional. I have a switch for my outdoor/indoor profiles too. The color of the widget changes as per the time of day, so it gets dark as the sky does!

Here are some unfinished, circular widgets I was working on about when the moto 360 came out:

What do you guys think of some of these? would you download them for use on your own device? I am extremely interested in making widget packs for people.

They look really nice but they don't feel like material design to me. Primarily because your shadows don't have the same qualities found in the design standards https://www.google.com/design/spec/what-is-material/environment.html#environment-light-shadow... However there's also the spacing as your padding and margins don't conform to the standard https://www.google.com/design/spec/layout/metrics-keylines.html#metrics-keylines-keylines-spacing .

Material shadow values (AI:)

Side note: Material design also uses the Roboto font.

Your widgets look good, don't get me wrong. It's just that Material Design has a very strict set of design standards.

I never read any of those standards back then, but now I take them to heart. But sadly it all seems so stale to me now. I am having some real trouble becoming inspired :(

Maybe it's time to move into something new. Perhaps some form of application design/development (mobile, web, desktop) you haven't done before. You already mentioned you want to design for games, perhaps try pursuing that.

Yeah, I don't have any programming skills, but I work on my game idea everyday. I have two ideas, one is an RPG and the other is a 3D horror game. I would love to dev for PS1, as a gimmick but also because of my artistic philosophy.

But I do love to make widgets too.

Any interest in learning?

Yeah, I want to goto college for it. If I had the discipline to teach myself, I would already be working on it.
