GTX 970 Running 4 Monitors?

I have SLI GTX 970 and I also currently have 3 1080p monitors, and I was thinking that I wanted a 144hz monitor to get the max out of the system that I can. I don't want to just have a monitor sitting in my basement with my spare i7 CPU and 2 motherboards, yeah a lot of my PC parts go to waste I know and I don't want another thing to just go sitting down there. Anyway, I was looking at a 1440p 144hz monitor, and I was wondering if I could do a triple monitor setup and have a single 1440p monitor on the bottom in the middle and have the 2 other monitors that are 1080p on the sides of it and have the other 1080p monitor on the top. of the middle 1440p monitor. Not sure if that makes sense, if it doesn't I can make a picture on MS Paint.

Normal workloads? Yes! Gaming? NOT A CHANCE!   You could have 1 card run the 3 1080p monitors and the other card run the 1440p monitor, you should be able to game on the 1440p monitor then and use the rest of them for other tasks.

I would just game on the 1140p screen, honestly I don't even game on all three 1080p I have at the moment, I just multitask out the ass. But I could game on the single 1440p and everything would run, right?

I edited my post check it now  One 970 should be able to max out newer games at 1440p and maintain 30FPS.

Well - depending on the OS yes but you will see less available VRAM - 1 windows 8.1 display eats around 400MB so 3x400 = 1.2GB.

3.5 GB - 1.2GB = 2.3 - you will be left with around 2.3 GB VRAM give or take.

I would laugh hard if it didn't - I tried VSR 1440p max settings in Witcher 3 and got 25 fps

Similar deal - around 400MB idle usage, give or take.

EDIT: Windows 7 uses around 128 Mb at idle.

But since I'm running a dual GPU setup, could I run the single 1440p off of the main GPU and the rest on the other GPU? Or is that not possible at all.

SLI doesn't stack VRAM - you will still have 2.3GB leftover for the main display and games even if it were quad SLI 970s

Yeah, thats 5FPS less, and the Witcher 3 is a very demanding game, in all other games you're fine, so im kinda laughing at you now :

Even if SLI is disabled? Hm. Well is it worth it going to 144hz then? I hear it's great. All I really play is CS:GO and Witcher 3 and the occasional battlefield.

Meh, alright, I'll think about it then. I tried 4k and it looked amazing, but just not enough Vram to run that with 2 other monitors xP and I didn't want 3 monitors sitting in my basement.

You see, this is where the 390 is king - 8 GB of VRAM

EDIT: From personal testing 1440p Witcher 3 uses 2.432 MB of VRAM - tested it to the letter
